uh, that makes no sense...I thought most large chains did market research before they infiltrated an area...I'm not quite sure where the customer base is coming from for a Hooters or Red Balloon...Hooters skews towards tourists and surburbanites and Red Balloon to suburban women...weird, disturbing and unwanted...

And Broadway newstand lost their lease because the dimwitted, Hong Kong based landlord wants a chain in that space which probably means Bleu is doomed as well...

I'm guessing these establishments will do about as well as The Gap did...

Seriously, though, WTF is up with everyone thinking lesbians will welcome this? Hooters is geared towards straight men, and while a dyke-in at Hooters was fun a decade ago, the version of female sexuality Hooters peddles isn't attractive, to this leasbian, anyway.

I have a hard time believing this isn't a joke, though, #12 notwithstanding. Don't all Stranger writers have highlighted names when they post?

27 and 28 have a point, or two...that fence is covered with faux ads...and why would Hooters put in a new restaurant so close to it's much better situated location at Lake Union?

However, I am sure that a large chunk of the developers and landlords along B'way ARE trying to entice the chains to come to the new and 'improved' Broadway...

and I really don't see who the fuck is going to patronize the Red Balloon, when you have that great discount variety store across the street which carries EVERYTHING on the planet...

Weird. There was a Hooters in Lynnwood, which I guessed was about the most demographically-appropriate neighborhood for it, being one long wasteland of strip-malls and barely-not-white-trash residents. The damn thing went out of business! How could that be? If Hooters can't make it in Lynnwood, what makes them think they can make it on Cap Hill?

From a business perspective, I think that opening a Hooters on Broadway is not at all prudent. At the same time, I can't help but notice the holier than thou, "we support diversity of opinion / lifestyle / business as long as you agree with us", "don't be surprised if we try to burn down this place" hypocrisy displayed in these comments.

@42, can we get the gay bars to move to the CD? We should talk to them about it. Mabye re-open Manray in the CD instead of them just folding up entirely. But to make it work you need to get a really really good GAY dance club down there. (And a realy dance club like the one from QAF) Then the breeders can have Capital Hill and all that they have turned it into!!

@44 If we have a dance club like QAF, I don't think I'd be able to go. I'm not in good enough shape. I would love a dance club that's better than Neighbour's (not difficult), and that has go-go boys. Who the hell is going to buy a $300-500K condo over a Hooters?
No single women, gay men, or older couples, the prime buyers of condos, would consider it. Straight men wouldn't live there without single women. Investors would have to rent them out at below the mortgage costs(maybe that's how we'll get affordable rentals again).
Wait for the impending failure of the Hooters, scoop up forclosures, and resell at a profit after the new Trader Joe's/Starbucks/Whatever moves in.

I really think the likelihood of this happening is none - I mean it's just a sticker slapped over a condo sign with other graffiti on it. But the freak out is pretty funny. The north end of broadway is dead anyway. 6 story condos aren't an improvement no matter what goes in there (I'm looking at you, Vivace).

But big gay dance clubs in the CD? No way, that would be just as obnoxious as Club Lagoon on Broadway.

puh-leeze...i've personally seen very liberal, hipstery, Cap Hill alt boy types go all ga-ga and tongue-tied when in the presense of a Hooter's waitress and they ended up tipping her $40 for a shitty meal with a $100 tab. Apparently, big fake boobs, spray on tans, and short-shorts worn with pantyhose and white socks ARE a huge turn on for our hetero inclined male friends despite their geo-socio-politico persuasion...
