I wonder what put a bigger smile on Osama bin Laden's face: hearing about the Twin Towers falling, or hearing about Bush being reelected.

It's not just depressing, it's absolutely mind-numbing. The damage that's been spread around the world because of our actions after 9/11 is so overwhelming and will endure for so long, it's almost unfathomable to comprehend and impossible to describe in mere words.

@2 No doubt. My mother is a christian fundie republican and even she and her fiance are spending a lot of time talking about what they will do "if the time comes that all our infrastructure falls down" etc and we all go back to partying like it's 1899. So damn depressing.

Just remember, that we have succeeded in turning Afghanistan from only the third largest opium producing nation to the first largest opium, heroin, and marijuana producing nation in the world.

Way to mess up, Bushie!

Another thought: It seems to me that we are no longer striving towards greater or more fulfilling achievements, both collectively and individually. We are at the point where we just scramble around trying to grab the next dollar and keeping our heads above water. Stepping on your fellow man is no longer a consideration. It is, quite literally, every man for himself.

@7 - because we're headed for third world status as a basketcase nation. That is Rove's legacy.
