Media Weekday—Again? WTF?

KUOW’s morning show is on twice a day now. Or Weekday is being rehashed on something called “KUOW Presents.” Uh… whatever, KUOW. Isn’t one dose of Weekday per day punishment enough?
Thank goodness I’m listening on iTunes, so I can switch to WBEZ in Chicago or WNYC in New York or KQED in SF, and catch up on the programming the geniuses running KUOW figure I don’t wanna hear anymore.
The BBC World Service is on now at KQED in SF right now. It’s not on in Seattle until 1 AM. Thank God for iTunes.

Mid-afternoon today on NPR/KUOW, Marc Acito made a brilliant commentary on the desertion by Senator Craig's so-called friends. I've tried to run down either an iPod broadcast or the hard copy of it w/out luck. Any help out there?

Fresh Air isn't on anymore? I don't know, I haven't listened to any NPR broadcast in over a year.
I love itunes too! And can I just say: reading and commenting on the slog has become my new favorite hobby! Does that make be a slog nerd? hehe. Sometimes the comments people make are even funnier than the stories! I heart slog! :) I also heart the Public Intern. AND I want Dan to run for President someday!

A few years ago the two NPR stations in the area, KPLU and KUOW, formed a consortium of sorts. With the cutbacks of funding from the federal government and the rising costs of programing, both stations agreed it was best not to duplicate broadcasts in the same market. So the early afternoon "Fresh Air" was eliminated on KUOW, but still lives on KPLU at 6:30 PM. "Marketplace" disappeared from KPLU at 6 PM but is still heard at KUOW at 6:30 PM.
Kinda makes sense not to duplicate, no?
I used to donate like $120 per year to KUOW, but I quit listening to it several years back (except for Sat nite "Swing Years"). I came to the conclusion that 24/7 micro-saturation-coverage of Iraq etc was bad for my mental outlook; I'm already well aware of how disastrous the world situation is and what a bunch of evil vampires Bush and his overlords are, but having it pounded at your ears non-stop just isn't healthy. Also at the time KUOW seriously pissed me off because for years they did not offer their online orginal-program downloads in Quicktime-compatible format (since remedied). Now I listen mostly to Canada's CBC Radio 2 on 92.1 FM and life is good. Virtually all the interesting NPR/PRI/etc shows are available on-demand or streamed online somewhere. I realize that there is a big funding problem looming for public radio, but I'm afraid that in the long run ongoing generational-shifts are going to prove it to be a baby-boomer-centric phenomenon.
Get an HD Radio, Dan. It's a digital format that KUOW's been broadcasting in for a couple of years. The quality can be quite good. KUOW gets a few "extra" digital only channels due to the format, and they broadcast BBC Radio 24 hours a day on 94.9-3 (HD 3). HD Radio tuners now cost as little as $100 (Radiosophy), and you can get modules for car radios or specially equipped car radios, too. (By posting this, I guarantee someone will follow up with all the political and financial issues about HD Radio. Forget all that. It's digital, it sounds good, and you get more programming choices.)
Everything is better in other towns.
Maybe I should be expanding my listening list to KUOW, but KIRO 710 still rules.
As for me I've been listening to Carlson and Schramm on KVI, 9-12, lately. Definitely something to think about...

I don't know about "Weekday" reruns... but that other fixture, Ross Reynolds' "Conversation" came on again last night- a definite negative, to my ears. For low-fi listeners, the KUOW-clone at 91.7 runs "Fresh Air" and lots of national/int'l programming... enuff that they get a button on my car radio (w/ KPLU, KEXP, KBCS, KING, &, YES- I'M A 97 YO WHITE MALE). I'm still a little miffed that Tavis is gone- just because I don't get a bonbon from cornel west (& the rest of Tavis' regulars) on a daily basis anymore... bummer ^..^
KCRW, Santa Monica is the best public radio. Yeah ITunes!
Ross Reynolds borders on insulting! "Conversation" is one of the worst programs I've ver heard and I can't believe people enjoy that crap!!! I still like C89! Those kids are just as "progressive" as any NPR station.
NPR opposes any and all true local radio. NOW or Bill Moyers or someone did a story on it last week. So, fuck 'em. Any nonprofit that's willing to team up with Clear Channel to kill small radio stations deserves to go under.
