Slog - Comments on Voting Day

Because the election is a month earlier than usual (to allow for mail-in ballot processing), the secretary of state predicts only a third of King County voters (34 percent) will participate in today's primary. If you're going to weigh in on the city council hopefuls, King County's parks levy, or the port commissioners, get on it. Here's The Stranger Election Control Board's print-n-go cheat sheet and our endorsements in depth....

What do you mean "only a third"??

In the closest equivalent to this year's primary, the September 2003 turnout was 29.54%. Two years ago, when we had primaries for County Executive, Sheriff, and all nine County Council seats, the primary drew 29.68% of registered voters.

So if we actually do turn out 34% of the electorate this year, that will, in fact, be a huge increase in participation.

No, Gitai, you can't do that.

You'll have to submit a provisional ballot, which you can do by going to any polling location. Probably best to go to your own local polling place, since you'll be able to get a ballot for the correct precinct -- and therefore, the correct candidates you're eligible to vote for -- but it can actually be done at any site.

if you go to the parties, and you see the candidates, please please please tell them to stop with the inane recorded phone calls, and the schmaltzy literature that fells forests by the acre. I refuse to vote for anyone who disturbs me in the middle of my french toast with a prerecorded message from god knows who, maybe Nickels, and I was going to vote for Venus until she sent out the godawful cardboard promo with her and Steinbrueck fake laughing over coffee.

When I voted at Belltower (1st and Bell)at 5:45 PM I was the 52 person to have voted in 6 precincts. In past elections (even school levies) 52 would have been the number for each precinct. Such a low turnout is bound to produce weird results.
