The War On Drugs is as real and effective a war as the War On Terror is.
As in, just another make-work project to fill the coffers of the Red Bushie comrades companies.
Shadow Drug Czar: Eric Schlosser.
A link to the Seattle Weekly?
If we had a public health system we'd also have a national drug formulary and it would put an immediate stop to patent evergreening (reissuing a slightly different formulation of a drug soon to go out of patent in order to continue to market a name-brand, and license generics).
Typically evergreened drugs are the same drug with some extra non-functional bit added to them, or with some non-functional part of the molecule altered a tiny bit, or even simply a enantiomeric isolate versus a racemic mix of the exact same compound. They are functionally equivalent, but it might take a few years for insurance companies to establish this sufficiently to move them off their formularies.
The government is in a much better position legally to obtain the information needed to demonstarted functional equivalence, and if we had a public health system, this nonsense wouldn't be possible.
you know, if you used paragraphs instead of run-on lines of text, i might have understood that, kinaidos.
California should totally take them up on that offer.
@ Godspeed, Lion link: drug war costing $420mil? Love it!
We use opiates for medical purposes all the time. I can't understand why we don't just pay market rate for Afghani poppy and use it in our own pharmaceutical industry.
That "Strange Love" item - if the Prince of Pot supports Ron Paul for the White (Green?) House, I'm turning Republican for one day next year.
The whole pot thing makes me sooo angry. It should have never been made illegal and the American public needs to wake the fuck up on this issue. If I hear one more person tell me that their drinking is better than my pot smoking I'm going to punch them in the face.
How many billions of dollars of taxpayer money fund the drug war? How many billions of dollars in assets have been seized and kept by the department that seized them? How much tax revenue is lost because of drugs sold on the black market?
I have to stop now; steam is coming out of my ears.
More excellent work by Mr. Holden. While the drug war may suck, we can always look forward to a witty summary of its failings at the end of each work week. To quote the great Robert Smith, Friday I'm in love!
Re No. 9 - Ron Paul for president? Why not the Prince of Pot himself? I'd prefer a toke instead of a joke in the WHouse.
