The Synthesis

posted by on August 3 at 11:57 AM

In the dialectics of the Hollywood mind, the spectacle of New York’s 9/11 and Baghdad’s Shock and Awe combine to give us this final image.

'Final image,' Charles? Maybe it's just the beginning...

I think it's just a sci-fi movie trailer.

Hello and welcome to July 2007.

That's a little overblown. How about The Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla instead?

Posted by bma | August 3, 2007 12:37 PM

Battle Of The Gargantuas filmed on camcorders. For comic relief, the Gargantuas are fat, slothful americans who drink waaay too many slurpees and turn HUGE! Then they rage. Awesome.

nice work charles, you're only a month behind this time.

Posted by jzilla | August 3, 2007 12:53 PM

jzilla, i rarely leave the 19th century, so for me it's way ahead of my time.

bma - you have it right.

lmao, "i rarely leave the 19th century"

explains a lot doesnt it?

I've got my fingers crossed for Cthulhu.

It's definitely not Godzilla.

Posted by jzilla | August 3, 2007 1:13 PM

i've also heard it is a Cthulhu adaptation, but nice try anyway CM.

Why did the building explode when the Statue of Liberty's head hit it?

Posted by Dougsf | August 3, 2007 3:10 PM

Why do space ships explode in outer space in sci-fi movies? There'd be no fiery explosions in a vacuum.

That's what translates on film.

You throw the Statue of Liberty's head at a fucking skyscraper I had better see something blow up.

So is this the end of history or what?

Posted by Jay | August 3, 2007 4:40 PM

i don't see ho this relates much to either 9/11 or shock and awe. there have always been movies about new york in danger; haven't you ever seen ghostbusters II?

Posted by douglas | August 3, 2007 8:44 PM

2 Centuries Ago Charles might not understand how the American movie goer absolutely LOVES seeing NYC destroyed in movies by meteors, tidal waves, monsters and whatever else it takes. It's in our DNA by now. We love it. It's instant goosebumps. The first time I saw The Statue Of Liberty's head bounce down a Manhattan street I was a cocktail of wide eyed awe and "Holy shit"s and all that stuff. Can't wait.

Oh yeah, did I mention it's Gargantuas. O.D'd on slurpies?
