The Pentagon Fires Two Gay People Every Day

posted by on August 6 at 8:54 AM

The bill in Congress to repeal the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy picked up five new sponsors today—including Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA), the highest-ranking veteran in Congress, having served 31 years in the United States Navy and retiring as a 3-star Admiral.

Also becoming a co-sponsor today—Washington’s Rep. Brian Baird, bringing the total number of sponsors to 131.

Washington Reps. Jay Inslee, Jim McDermott, and Adam Smith are already co-sponsors.

Mr. National Security, Rep. Dave Reichert, isn’t on the list.

I wonder if his religious beliefs are preventing him from supporting a stronger military.

Judging from the gay bars every Seafair weekend, the Pentagon is failing in their mission to have a 100% heterosexual fighting force.

Keep the ban and save gay and lesbian lives.

There is simply no reason for gay men and lesbians to serve a right-wing country like the US that hates us, condemns us and denies us equal rights.

I’ve read that as many as 40,000 healthy young gay men and lesbians would sign up for military service if DADT were repealed. Keeping the ban in place saves their lives and prevents them from becoming accomplices to this nation’s lies and war crimes.

“One linguist was serving in Iraq with a Marine combat unit when he was discharged. A military source reported that he was known to be gay but was allowed to serve and was only formally investigated after an Inspector General audit obtained language from the computer chat rooms that apparently suggested he might be gay. Enlisted with the Navy, he was serving with the Marines in the 'individual augmentation' program, which allows the military to pull talent from whatever branch they need to, in order to fill shortfalls such as that of the highly trained Arabic linguists. Under "don't ask, don't tell," the military has fired at least fifty-eight Arabic linguists.”

Would you want to work for the Dept of Defense? Fuck them.

The worst mistake anyone ever made was "asking" the military to do something.

You order the military to do something, and only permit questions as to HOW they will implement it.

Understand, soldier?

Sir, yes sir!

MY religious beliefs prevent me from supporting a stronger military.

and i basically have no religious beliefs, other than "the last thing this country needs is a stronger military".

this country needs a MUCH weaker military. about 1/3 to 1/2 as large.

and Reichert took 20 years to catch a retarded killer, so don't expect him to do much more than tie his own shoes in the morning.

@7 Don't worry. Our empire is in decline, just as the British Empire declined in the last century. By the time my future children have their own children, we'll be comfortably French.
