The headline he deserves . . . except maybe the "dies" part . . .
thank you thank you and thank you. It saddens me that MSN and other 'news' sources haven't even put his passing on the front page, but what do you expect from the same company (NBC) that screwed him over in the first place? The man was a hero and I'm just sad that he had to die for people to talk about it again. He should have been able to read that in every newspaper across the country.
That poor bastard. Every major media outlet jumped on the chance to vilify him, and none of them bothered to do any actual reporting on the story. Sometimes, where there's smoke, all there is is a smudge pot. He deserves the headline (ok Ziggity, except for the "dies" part), but damn it, it should've happened when he was alive.
At first I thought you were being sarcastic, but then I recalled who he was. The poor man suffered through an intense media frenzy and only to have it melt away when he was cleared. It is unfair to have him convicted in the public eye for months and only have one day where they say he is cleared. It isn't easy to forget all the dark music and omnious graphics that the media inflicts.
@2 and @3 are correct. He was a hero. Thanks to Dan for putting that statment out there.
Right on. Irresponsible journalism and mob mentality ruined this competant and good security guard. The intrusions into his personal life, his name going through the mud, terrible business.
To honor the truly lamentable case of Richard Jewell, his name should become eponymous, as in "he was jewelled". That is, to describe the FBI's efforts to speedily 'get their man' when the mob howls for a suspect and the only exercise the FBI can perform is jumping to conclusions. Further idle and idol speculation: does anyone imagine that if Richard Jewell had looked like Owen Wilson he would have been so roasted on the nasty spit of American lookism?
"The Headline He Deserves"-- very moving choice of words.
I hadn't heard the news. Thanks for pointing this out.
