@13, LOL, I know, interesting how this "Broke" right after Gonzo resigned and there is no one left in the justice department. Me thinks the GOP is doing a huge purge of the party of anyone they think could be gay. I would expect a few more of these cases to come out over the next few weeks. The party is probably hoping that by next year voters will forget about these "indescrections" by the time the next terrorist attack is allowed to happen by the administration.

Never underestimate the GOP EVER!! No matter the bumbling mistakes they make they are dangerous and I think use that bumbling around for their own purposes.

The cop seems like a decent guy, he's far less abrasive than I've heard cops be. (He also sounds really young, like 23).

However the cop is also operating from his perspective...the "I do this all the time and see no problem with my job." He caught someone "breaking the law" as the cop is told to enforce it. The cop himself is not in a position to question the bullshitness of what he was asked to do.

I really do think it was entrapment. The cop did encourage and solict the attention in order to garner an arrest. He's just following orders and, as he says on the tape, every ELSE he's caught doing this has immediately fessed up.

Neither the cop nor the Senator are fully aware of all the forces that are in place while they're interacting.

I don't put the cop on high moral ground but I also fully understand the Senator's position. He was lying but he was also being faced with something by someone he never should have had to answer to. Meanwhile the cop is like "I can't believe you are sitting there lying to me when we both know what just happened."

Of course Craig was going to lie and the cop really shouldn't have expected the Senator not to. He had more to lose than the other people the cop brought in.

BUT, the police officer is a total and complete ASSHOLE who SOLICITED sex from another adult by tapping his foot on the floor. This is pure and fucking simple entrapment. And is it a crime to bump someone's foot under the stall? Is it a crime to swipe your fingers under the stall?

I'm conflicted because I hate HATE Larry Craig, but I loathe LOATHE the fucking police officer for ENTRAPPING people.

Entrapment is when an officer compels you to do something you would not otherwise do.

Clearly, Craig went to the bathroom for just the purpose for which he was arrested--he was looking for action.

When we go out for drinks, my boyfriend should not be forced to look at gay men's erections. If it takes police entrapment to make our community safe then like Dan Savage, I'm all for entrapment.
