Apparently Charles is unfamiliar with young folks texting. The text he was responding to could have been "I jst farted in class! LOL!!1!" and he would have been just as lost to reality in his response. I'm amazed more kids don't stand on the sidewalk drooling while they're lost in their texting comas. That this isn't happening on a daily basis is a miracle.

Texting is fine if they are standing still. Like any other reading or writing. I don't get the compulsion to text while walking or driving. I almost ran over a pedestrian a few days ago who walked right out in front of me in the middle of a block, texting away on her phone without ever looking up to see if the street was clear. I did the right thing and stopped. But I must confess that a part of me was tempted to hit the gas pedal instead of the break pedal.

This sort of 21st century phenom clearly demonstrates why there will be no anti-war demonstrations. When your face is buried in a screen the size of a large toe nail and you're rattling your brain searching for sensible consonants, mindlessness prevails - a clever plan cleverly administered and successful in rendering our youth docile and carelessly preoccupied.

he didn't hear the other train because the sound it made was masked by the sound of the train that had just passed. Nothing romantic just an accident. He could have been distracted by many things but if it was text messaging it was probably typing something boring like.
"did she really say that, OMG LOL"
you know he type of text message conversation that keeps cell companies making millions. Nothing romantic just gossip.
