This is going to be totally packed with hot hot hot geeks. Today's geeks are better socialized, much more sexy and play less D&D than the ones in the past, I promise.

All geeks are nerds, but it does not necessarily follow that all nerds are geeks. I have met plenty of nerds who are as technologically incompetent as the most fluffy Barbie soc types.

@6:

Agreed. I have no problem with being called a nerd (it's the truth, and I've learned to accept it), but I bristle a bit at the geek title. I'm capable of dealing with the technology that I interact with on a daily basis and I can swap a hard drive out of a computer, but I don't speak geek (or play video games all weekend in the lab with a couple of my 45+ year old co-workers...now there's some geeks).

Thanks for the love! It would be great to get Dan or Last Days on stage for the next one -- sometime in October.
One nit: we are more of a haphazardly quarterly event than bi-monthly.

To me: geek=social misfit, nerd=smart guy. Plenty of nerds be geeks as well, but probably the minority of geeks are nerds. A lot of semi-intelligent, filthy fuckwits are in the geek community. I play D&D (and other games as well), and it can be hard to find a game with people that don't make your teeth grind. I'm smarter than the average geek myself, but not interested enough in thinking to qualify as a nerd. Nerds be cooler than geeks, let me tell you. I envy them, but not enough to get off my lazy duff and become one.

Wierd. Around Tucson, geek basically just means techno-saavy, and nerd mostly refers to someone who dresses like the Revenge-of-the-Nerds stereotype.

Nerd: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits

Geek: 1. a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked 2. an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity

I think there should be a third definition for a nerdy geek that is well liked ...
