Oh Jonah, this is a horrible event, but don't fucking blame all of the SPD for not covering "hate crimes"

If everything in this article is true then it's a hate crime.

They'll be lucky if the SPD investigates this at all, let alone as a hate crime. Those jaywalking tickets don't write themselves, you know.

Oh, what a fucking surprise. SPD isn't investigating a crime. At this point, I just don't fucking understand why we bother keeping them around for all they do after a crime.

Why not cut the force in half, and have the remaining half dedicated to stopping violent crimes in progress? For all the violent crimes where they don't catch the perpretrator in the act (the only time aside from murder they'll actually make an arrest, investigate, or even feign interest), and for all property crimes, we can pay a dedicated crew of record keepers to file the reports necessary to make an insurance claim and maintain our crime stats. I mean, it'll cost less than a cop's starting salary, and there would be no net difference.

Maybe it was hate crime and maybe not. The weekend crowds draw a lot of old fashioned S.O.B's who will punch anyone for any reason regardless of whether they are gay, female or a "friend".
Nightlife has become problematic in parts of Seattle but many don't see people getting punched in the face as a problem. Maybe that is the police response?
