Ms. Perino, why can't 1/5 of Americans find the US on a world map?

you know the guy has cancer and is under chemo, right? something tells me that has more to do with it than his salary. Look at the guy--he looks like shit.

The past year or two of having to listen to him has driven me crazy, and his flippant attitude pisses me off to no end, but i've watched friends die of cancer and it's fucked up. I feel sorry for him, because I wouldn't wish that on anyone. He has a family, and he's probably going to die, so I wouldn't blame him for quitting his job.

Super fox? Right. Better than the average Republican Miss at the downtown Nordstrom, but not foxy. She looks like Slade Gorton.

Yeah, it's a shame he has cancer but that doesn't excuse the fact that he's a lying liar. Frankly, I don't know how anyone in the Bush administration lives with themselves. I'm guessing lots of very very very long hot showers... with bleach... and a scrub brush.

@17 - but he had the perfect, sympathetic reason right there. Who would fault him for leaving to deal with his cancer? Why would he come up with a bullshit reason that makes him look completely out-of-touch, clueless, entitled and selfish rather than say "look, I've got cancer, I can't do this any more"?

The only logical conclusion is that he honestly thinks he can't afford to work making over 160K a year, and that we should maybe even feel bad for him for working such a lousy-paying job.

monkey @ 12,

Lacking a conscience and moral scruples means they don't have to deal with icky feelings like guilt and remorse.

Maybe his white house insurance denied his claim for chemo because it was a "pre-existing" condition?

For some reason, I find these moderately pretty, blonde, mid-30's white women in the Bush administration to be the most frightening of all. There's something so Stepford meets Crawford TX about them.

Just points out how ineffective our American medical system is, and how even the super-rich can't afford to get sick here, while every other first world nation has no problem in that area.

He clearly is succumbing to cancer and, as a human, deserves all of our sympathy. And if I was suffering a relapse I wouldn't be forthcoming about my reasons for leaving either. Allow the man some privacy. Also, if he is going to die and leave his family widowed and fatherless, I don't blame him one bit for seeking a little more money (above $160K) to leave them with. I have no doubt FOX would pay him handsomely, and he sees that as a way to leave them with some security. Sheesh, people.

Whatever. I'm sorry he has cancer, but I'm sorry millions of people around the country have cancer, many due to corporate malfeasance and pollution aided and abetted by the administration Mr. Snow represents.

I'm also sorry most of those people don't make enough to support their families with or without cancer, and that they don't have anything approaching adequate health care (a situation that has not been remotely addressed by this administration), and even if they are covered, they're probably given the runaround at every corner by their insurance companies, to whom this administration has also turned a blind eye.

I'm sorry cancer exists. I'm sorry for Tony Snow's family. I'm also sorry Tony Snow is a shill for the crappiest administration in living memory, and somehow hasn't saved enough in years of working in television to leave his family with some security. I'm sorry for our entire country for having had to live under the administration this guy blocks for every day.

George@26
I see no reason to show sympathy for Snow. He has been a major player in a corrupt government. He has told lies about his own previous statements. Lies that can be easily proved on video tape. I could care less if it was his job or not. He has done harm to others and appears to have no regrets. If it is his cancer that is his reason for leaving, he should...just this once...tell the truth. He should worry as much about the futures of the wives, loved ones and children that have suffered at the hands of the master he has served.

All I know about Tony Snow is this...if you worked for Fox "News" and as W's press secretary, and a died-in-the-wool liberal like Keith Olbermann of MSNBC considers you a friend, you can't be all bad. Deluded, maybe, but not all bad.

@28 - it's not of your fucking business if cancer is the real issue or not. it's not a matter of public policy. it's his personal health, and it's up to him to decide what he should or should not share.

some of these comments about him are so petty it's pretty disturbing, actually. as a liberal democrat, i thought we were supposed to be the alternative to the shitheads who blame katrina on gays. it sounds to me like everyone here says he deserves it because they don't like his politics and his social class. what that tells me is that it is ok to gloat over someones misfortune so long as they don't fall into your particular political sweet spot. it's pathetic.

i fucking hate the guy as a spokesperson, but that doesn't mean that I don't think he's a human being dealing with a terminal illness. the double standards around here are really incredible.

Some of you who are wishing Tony Snow to die slowly, and that he deserves this are some sick people. And right up there with George Bush in terms of your values and morality.

And double standards are the main course with Slog in case you have not noticed. There is no class on here at all. Just shit coming out of everyone's mouths. And this is the worse of it we have seen so far.

@28
I didn't say it was or wasn't my business. My original post only mentioned Snow's stated (and repeated today) reason for leaving...money. His politics do matter...just like Vitter, Foley and Craig's matter. Its not just about what they did. Its about their actions being in direct opposition to what they demand from others. I feel no guilt in not feeling sorry for someone that has shown such disregard for the plights of others. I did not gloat. I did not wish him a slow and painful death as others here have. I just think it is telling that even with his illness, his thought is about money. Its completely valid for him to want to provide for his family. Its also valid to point out that he has taken a hand in making it very difficult for others to provide for their families. Or refused to even recognize families that do not fit into his definition.
Again, I wish the man no harm. I do not revel in his illness.
