It's strikingly hideous, that's for sure. It looks like HR Geiger and LEGO had a miscarriage.

I kinda like it.

It's just dirty and run down. I think it's kind of cool.

Love it.

It's kind of fun. Makes me think of bees in a hive.

I think that building was designed by Dozci, who wrote the cool book "The Power of Limits" - could be wrong though.

Ah, yes. The Klingon High Command building.

Hopefully the next one can dispense with the skybridge.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | August 22, 2007 4:36 PM

the skybridge is what makes it unbearable.

the ban roll-on building on second & seneca (spring?) is substantially worse, because it is boring.

oh, yeah: how is the beehive WORSE than the cheap-ass JAIL across the street? the skybridge is for transporting prisoners to the courthouse - it is an architectural manifestation of the prison industrial complex that throttles this nation.

Bastard. I rather like the thing.

Of course, I'm one of the nuts that also thinks that the Boston City Hall is absolutely awesome.

Reminds me of a building I took classes in at Central Washington U. - same elongated hexagonal windows & cross-hatching exterior support features, so guessing was probably designed by the same architect.

I thought that was the jail for the longest time

Ron won't be happy until we build him a castle and start addressing him as "King Ron." Ron is too busy trying to build something as his legacy vs. doing any actual real work for the county.

I agree with Sims. That building is fucking hideous.

Ron Sims has obviously never been to Zagreb.

Hey it will only cost us $200 or $300 million or so to get a more aesthetically leasing building. Let's make all government buildings disposable, so we can have pretty, pretty buildings!

Hmm. Why not use the money to buy some more bus service for Seattle instead of building a "new" building?

The Sonics want a new building too - ain't gonna happen.

as someone who works in that building (just behind the trees in the picture) i think it could definitely use some help if it sticks around - the air circulation in there is HORRENDOUS, as are the bathrooms - the 'water saving' motion sensor faucets don't work worth a shit, among other things.

oh and Elections (the department for which i work) is definitely moving to Renton in December. any of you anti-car & viaduct/pro-transit folks want to figure out a way to get TO renton FROM seattle every morning in a manner that doesn't require me to be on the road 2.5 hours before my work time and a 1 mile walk in the rain? currently there aren't even any carpools or vanpools that go that way. yes, i've checked.

that building is amazing and a precursor to h+de m's prada in tokyo as well as foster's times square project.

Ah, yes, the Mudede crush on square buildings. Square - already perfect. Else, an abomination (unless it's boobies).

It's in the same city as EMP, and Ron thinks this is the ugliest building in the world?

That's like picking Suzuki as the 2001 MVP when he wasn't even the best (or second-best, or third-best) player on his own team.

@18

That gives me an idea. Sims and the rest of the admin types can move into the Key after the Sonics are gone.

It's fucking horrible. Is Charles actually defending it here?

The ugliest in the world? Hmmm. Let me introduce you to the People's Storage building on Leary Way between Ballard and Fremont. You will be brought to your knees, Mr. Sims.

After many, many trips to Russia, where Soviet architects did a real number on most of the country, I can say with some certainty, that, as far as I have seen, this is the fuckin' ugliest building in the world. I will be there with a big ol' martini to salute the day they dynamite it. Sad thing is, the way things are going in Seattle these days, they will build something far larger and far more hideous.

I wish UW's Sieg Hall looked as good as the building Sims dislikes downtown.

It is almost so ugly that it is kinda pretty.

Ron Sims performed a miracle in bringing light rail to Seattle. He may well be Jesus fucking Christ. He deserves more than this hideous tangle of concrete. It looks like something a cat coughed up.

And to the pissant haters? Fuck all you all.

This picture is a rather neutral view. It's uglier close up. From this angle, you can't see the wiggly sculpture on the jail-facing side. The sculpture serves as a greeter, before you step inside to get a dog license.

Nice photo, Maggie. How things have changed... and not changed.

The worst thing about Sieg to me is inside - I remember the space as weird and claustrophobic. Also, whenever I saw the sign "Sieg Hall" I thought of the Nazi salute.

It's a great building!

It's a building with texture and dimension.

I suppose Ron prefers the gawdawful city building up the street (where you pay your light bill.) It's fucking hideous.

Or the soviet style new Math building at Seattle Central...

For all you architecture buffs, the Mayor is looking for a new member for his Landmarks Preservation Board if interested.

The diamond pattern on the building nicely complements the new downtown library.
