You call him a Prankster.
I call the Red Bushie a Traitor.
To hell with Satterberg. Maleng actually was kind of a moderate for a long time, maybe not so much lately, but his assistant is looking like a Karl Rove clone.
This position ideally isn't supposed to be partisan, but fuck it. Vote for a Democrat. I think Sherman is a good choice.
well as long as the stranger keeps endorsing greens they will probably keep running. nice work, josh.
@3,
We endorsed a Green in the non-partisan city council race.
thanks for the memo, josh.
it doesn't matter, you are still legitimizing a third party in a two-party system. even throw away endorsements of a green, like back in 2000, give greens in seattle a sense of legitimacy. if they want more progressive politics, great, the place to do that is democratic primaries. otherwise they are forced into being spoilers since that's the way the system is set-up.
until we change our voting system to irv or proportionality, green party candidates only hurt progressive causes (e.g. nader v gore). it's not fair, but it's the reality.
endorsing someone (joe szwaja) who has run in partisan races as a green, been an active member of the green party in seattle, recruited candidates (like aaron dixon) to run in other partisan races, simply legitimizes him and all his green supporters -- and will result in greens continuing to pop up in partisan races for years to come. szwaja supported nader in 2000 and 2004. he'll be voting for a green in 2008. so don't complain if a green pops up in the prosecutor's race, because you are part of the problem.
good point. heck, lots of people are using the Dem cave-in on wiretapping as an excuse to push 3rd party on people too.
When we all know that just leads to more Reds being elected. Which makes it worse.
Satterberg's defense when his chief deputy is hitting up law firms doing business with the office for support - after claiming that he won't accept campaign help from his employees? "Um, that's not really an endorsement..."
Now, when it turns out that Satterberg, who has tried to pose as a nonpartisan, has hired a dirty-tricks right winger? Satterberg says Shore is just doing mail, letters, and yard signs? In a campaign like this, that's the whole ballgame. He's clearly the main strategic consultant, at $2K/month, per the PDC.
Now Satterberg has been caught as a Karl Rove republican, and his statement basically says he's sorry he got caught. Let's hope that Satterberg does a little better due diligence in hiring his office staff than he's done in hiring his campaign staff. These excuses are getting pretty lame.
Apropos of this race, I note that while The Stranger has endorsed Scully, their favourite daughter, Stephanie Pure, has endorsed Bill Sherman. Not trying to read tea leaves here, just looking for some peanut butter consistency.
Mmmm...peanut butter.
Satterberg has raised tons of money from old-school Republicans, too - the people who brought us George Bush. Sherman, for his part, calls himself an environmentalist but had no scruples about taking money from the Master Builder's Assocation - the people who brought us urban sprawl. Sherman calls it "consensus building" - I call it "selling out".
