Take that Bill G!
Now stop trying to kill our skateparks!
way way overdue.
Now tell Bill G to stop trying to kill skateboarding in Seattle.
Someone needs to tell the skater haters that snowboarding used to be looked down upon as unruly hooligans overrunning the ski resorts and now it's an Olypic event.
Oh yeah, AND to lighten up or die already.
This actually shows how incredibly lame, lazy and ignorant about our City the City Council is becoming. Total lack of leadership, total lameness.
I am all for skateparks. Would even love on in my neighborhood. But this is the wrong place, and the council knows it, they are just too lazy to do real research and thinking about decisions they make sometimes.
Reality check - there is about 230 days of programming in these pavilions, and they are the main hub of production for the major festivals at the center - Bumbershoot, the Bite, and Folklife. There is literally nowhere else to do this sort of production, unless of course the City Council approves more money to build another area, which would be a total waste of tax money.
Additionally, there is a process underway to update much of the Center. Seems smart to make a skatepark part of the overall Center renewal plan, no? Sure, that would seem logical. Instead we have planning by piecemeal mandates and committee. Not one shread of leadership.
A better place for all would be near Broad Street, and obvious choice not researched because the Wright family who owns the millions of dollars in profit per year, non tax paying Space Needle. Seems money talks louder than people. No big surprise, except this council is trying to do something for the community here, but instead it bungles it.
Seriously, between this and the nightlife ordinance, not to mention transportation, and a myriad of other issues, this council is becoming the biggest political joke on the west coast.
Come on Council - as individuals you are smarter than this. Time to get it together as a group. Someone needs to step up and show some leadership. Steinbreuck is leaving, so who's it gonna be? Anyone? Someone? Help??
I'm all for skateparks too. Really, I am.
But this? This location is the worst idea I've heard yet.
Not only does it displace a usable building, it's just not a good spot.
Unfortunatly there are no Gateses, Allens or Wrights to oppose it.
