Slog - Comments on Mariners vs. Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox beat the Mariners today--and I'm not at all happy about coming home from my vacation a day early to watch the Red Sox slaughter the Ms. But, hey, we tied 'em yesterday. At least that's what the A.P. says. Here's the headline... Red Sox 4, Mariners 4...

A bunch of guys from Lookout Landing and USS Mariner got together to see the Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday and the Everett Aquasox on Friday. Both nights were fun but as a result, I missed all but the final frame of Friday's win, and then got to see quite a bit of Saturday's loss. I finally turned off the TV today and watched a Port of Seattle session on cable TV instead of today's game because it was less painful.

How was the trip, Dan?

News from Dan Savage\'s war of liberation in Iraq--Freedom is on the march!

Over the past nine months, his family has suffered one horror after another. In June, his father disappeared while visiting Omer’s sister in a mixed and violent district that has been ethnically cleansed by Shia militias over the course of the year. (Omer’s family is Sunni.) Omer begged the local Office of the Martyr Sadr for information, but the Sadrists denied any involvement. After ten days or so, Omer went with a friend to look for his father at the morgue and found a scene of absolute hell. Bodies were stacked two or three high in the hallways, with no refrigeration, the older corpses beginning to decompose and generate maggots. Holding hands, Omer and his friend examined body after body until they found one that had been shot in the torso and might have been his father; they couldn’t be sure. Morgue officials led them to a room where a few dozen Iraqis, many of them women, were staring at six computer monitors. The screens showed a picture of one corpse’s face for a few seconds, then flashed the next face. Now and then, someone in the room would begin to wail. This was the closest thing to “closure” and dignity in death that the victims’ families could expect. Suddenly, the face of Omer’s father appeared on all six screens.

BAGHDAD - The bodies of 18 people, including two women, were found dumped across Baghdad in the past 24 hours, police said. Most of the bodies were found in Baghdad\'s predominantly Sunni Arab western Karkh side.

BAGHDAD - A barrage of mortar rounds at a petrol station killed 11 people lining up to fill their vehicles and wounded 15 others in eastern Baghdad, police said. Six people were wounded by mortar rounds at another petrol station in a nearby district.

* BAGHDAD - Two U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military said.

Excerpt from \"Say Yes To War\" by Dan Savage October 2002

\"In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we\'re going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves\"

delenda est dw? That phrase doesn\'t often come up on the SLOG. And links to a Metro blogging site AND a Shatner video telling people to get a life? Clearly you are a very witty well informed and educated hipster! IT IS annoying to be reminded of the war in Iraq isn\'t it? After all, like Dan, you will never have to fight in it. Fighting and dying in the Iraq war is for the little people-right DW. Partying and entertainment is for guys like you and Dan. Party on DW! Party on Dan! Go Mariners!

Stop right there. If you're so ignorant you don't know what "delenda est" is a reference to, then you clearly should get out of the anti-war business altogether.

I mean, honestly, this is the type of activist the anti-war movement is turning out? No wonder the quagmire in Iraq continues.
