Is Coke Zero True?

posted by on August 7 at 13:47 PM

We don’t have any Coke Zero in the vending machine here at Stranger HQ. If you want Coke Zero, you have to walk to the Shell station (although their idea of refrigeration is European, to say the least, and they’re often out of stock) or one block farther to QFC.

Just now I made the trek. Not far from QFC, a guy saw the Coke Zero sticking out of my backpack and approached me.

He seemed hesitant, sorry to bug me. But he just had to ask. “Does that really taste better than Diet Coke?” he said.

“Well, it tastes like Coke,” I said. “Except, no calories.”

“Really?”

“That’s the idea.”

“Is it true?” he said.

“Pretty much.”

“That’s what I heard.” He smiled. He seemed resolved to try it. “I just didn’t know if it was true.”

In related news: Don’t try it, guy! Don’t start! I can feel the brain tumor growing within my skull as I type. Maybe I’ll ask Science about this.

Coke Zero upside: Tastes more like regular Coke. Downside: You'll grow tired of the novelty and be back to good ol' Diet Coke within a month.

I think I'll just avoid the conundrum entirely and stick with my Diet Shasta Cola...

Watch The Stuff first before you try it.

monkey @3:

Have you seen the wikipedia entry for "The Stuff"? At the bottom it says:

See Also Pink Berry
It's funny 'cause it's true.

Does it keep you up all night with "friends" planning things you'll never actually do like the regular stuff does?

Fuck diet. Give me Mexican Coke with real cane sugar (available at most taco trucks and Cupcake Royale).

I hate soda, but tried the coke zero and will admit it tastes better than that pee called diet coke.

#8, was gonna say the same thing. The only time I ever drink soda is when I occasionally succumb to those little thick glass bottles at the taquerias, with their hilariously tacked on nutritional info stickers sadly peeling off the side.

Nice and flat with real sugar. So good.

@elswinger #8: right the fuck on. Coke with real cane sugar FTW.

European Coke has cane sugar too. Good to know they have the good stuff at Cupcake Royle. I believe you can also buy it from the mart near Pony.

Fuck the diet stuff, I've tried them all and they all have that after taste. And don't try to tell me "oh it's splenda" cuz that shit has that same after taste that makes you want to throw up.

I agree with the coke with cane sugar, but not the flat part. If anything, coke needs more eye-watering fizz. I'll drink regular american coke too, but it's not my favorite.

Boylan Bottling Co. makes a cane sugar cola thats really good too. Tastes like molasses.

There's a Guatemalam bakery in White Center that also sells Mexican Pepsi in the big 20oz. glass bottles.

I am naming my first born, boy OR girl, coke zero in honor of the joy it has brought to my life. No Joke.

When Dan Savage wrote this in Oct. 2002 he was saying that the death of children in the Iraq war was acceptable.

\"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times. Saying no to war in Iraq means saying yes to the continued oppression of the Iraqi people.\\\"

So why don\\\'t we apportion Dan Savage his fair share of the carnage in Iraq? Let\\\'s arbitrarily assign him responsibility for the death of, say, an eight year old Iraqi girl. That sounds about right doesn\\\'t it? That still leaves 649,999 dead Iraqis to be apportioned out to Bush and the neo-cons and other war supporters.
