Thanks to our media's diligent coverage of lurid stories like this all over the world, it's easy to live in a constant state of alarm without ever stopping to think that incidents like this are in fact extremely rare.

The vast majority of heterosexual female teachers don't kidnap and molest their students. I for one wouldn't favor banning them from holding teaching positions.

Uh, no, because most pedophiles are men. If almost all pedophiles only assaulted children of the opposite sex, there would be very few boy victims of sexual abuse.

But, most pedophiles "identify" as straight. Which makes sense. They're not sexually interested in adults of either gender, only children. So, if they're going to pretend to be something they're not (relatively healthy adults), they might as well pretend to be heterosexual and avoid taking the shit dished out to gays.
