A former elementary school teacher has been charged with kidnapping a 10-year old student to have sex with him.

Isn't it true that most pedophiles are "straight?" As in they have sex with opposite sex kids? No sources on hand, but I also believe psychologists say that male pedophiles who have sex with boys can't really be defined as homosexual anyway as homosexual men should be attracted to men hence "homo" = same. Comparing apples to oranges, people.

I'll bet you five bucks the commentary on this case will be different than if it was a male teacher and a girl victim.

There is still the general perception that when a woman rapes a boy, that is one lucky, lucky boy.

It's also a pretty good example of how dramatic, society-wide reactions to isolated incidents (reactions of the "we need to pass a law!" variety) are frequently misguided. Thanks to our media's diligent coverage of lurid stories like this all over the world, it's easy to live in a constant state of alarm without ever stopping to think that incidents like this are in fact extremely rare.

The vast majority of heterosexual female teachers don't kidnap and molest their students. I for one wouldn't favor banning them from holding teaching positions.

If its a pit bull, people (including you Dan) point to how ALL pit bill's are aggressive and inherently evil and should be eradicated at all costs.....yet if it's a lab or some-other acceptable breed it is assumed that that individual dog must have just been off a bit, not the whole breed.

I wish you would apply your logic to all situations where there are ignorant ISM's and phobias (rasism, breedism, sexism, homophobia.....)being practiced.

Uh, no, because most pedophiles are men. If almost all pedophiles only assaulted children of the opposite sex, there would be very few boy victims of sexual abuse.

But, most pedophiles "identify" as straight. Which makes sense. They're not sexually interested in adults of either gender, only children. So, if they're going to pretend to be something they're not (relatively healthy adults), they might as well pretend to be heterosexual and avoid taking the shit dished out to gays.

Let's be fair about this. While pit bulls should clearly be the first ones to go, all large dogs kept as pets- Labradors, Irish setters, St. Bernards- should be boiled and eaten. Preferably by pedophiles. Smaller dogs- corgis, chihuahuas and the like- should be seared and grilled to maintain moisture and flavor.

The responsibility for a crime is collective and the incident is instructive when a gay person commits it; responsibility is individual and there’s nothing instructive about it when a straight person commits the same crime.

Yeah, see, that's just bullshit. Women are happy go generalize if it's a male attacker and a female victim. African Americans are happy to generalize if it's a white attacker and an African American victim. And so on. Queers don't really get any special treatment on this score.
