He also used "neither" when he should have used "either".

This just confirms my prior plans to vote against all incumbents in all port races for the next 5 years. That whole commission is totally out of control and ALL of them should be fired. I know Lloyd Hara, he's a good man and he is the only exception. Everyone else is acting like children and should be summarily relieved of their jobs. This is utter bullshit.

I appreciate that you brought this up, Josh, but the most pressing issue RIGHT NOW is whether or not Lora Lake should be saved, not whether Edwards should be re-elected.

I am *not* an Edwards supporter, and will *not* vote for him, but for whatever reasons, he is on the right side of this particular issue, and Creighton most certainly is not.

Jack Block is a member of the Burien City Council, which is leading the effort to demolish the Lora Lake Apartments, so Tom McCann or Tarleton are far better primary choices for the anti-Edwards voter. Just sayin'.

#2, Alec has been a major voice for change. He is worth retaining.

That e-mail message was totally condescending. What, is he Bob Edwards' DAD?

Plus, City Councilmembers seek to embarass each other all the time. You don't see them sending finger-wagging e-mails to each other.

That John Creighton is just angry that Edwards outfoxed him.

Forget these people. I'm voting for Gael Tarleton.

Josh,
What's your problem? Who cares if Edwards was slow to try and save the Lora Lake?

Do you want him to stay silent, go back in time and start earlier to save it, or stick with his (new) effort to save some housing.

Even if he held a different position before, and changed his mind, so what?

If this is en election hour change of mind, fine, that's why we have pressure in politics, and elections, and a system that is supposed to get responsiveness.

...Unless of course, you'd rather the Lora Lake was destroyed and housing was lost. Geez.

Talk about forest and trees. You can't resist an opportunity to play the you're-an-opportunist line. Which makes YOU an opportunist.

J.R. @ 4:

Nice try but no cigar. Jack Block Jr. was the sole NO vote when the Council voted to tear Lora Lake down immediately. Council Member Sally Nelson was called away on personal business and was not present at that vote. She, like Block, opposes immediate demolition.

I'm quite intrigued by all this.

What is this "port" you speak of? Where is it? We have a seaport here in Ballard. Is it like that?

@9,

Edwards is a total opportunist, and Josh is dead on for calling it out. The truth is the truth.

Edwards has never taken a stand on anything. He has been a go along get along hack for years and now he knows he is in trouble.

Do you really think he even gives a shit about the homeless? Is he now magically been turned into a progressive? He is and always has been a country club republican.

Good job Josh. The email is amazing. Great catch. @9, please pull your head out of Edwards ass.

This is good, healthy stuff. Now I've got a better idea of how to vote, thanks to Slog and a leaked e-mail. Democracy and the interwebs, yeah team!

This is also a reminder of how fucked up a style of government Sound Transit and SMP are. Those are all political appointees on those boards. We never get to vote on who heads those kinds of governments up.

The public can't elect change agents, remove ineptitude, etc. Heck, there never even are any e-mail leaks from ST that provide Slog-fodder. And SMP's silence for years about the deteriorating financial issues turned that great concept into a smoking black hole. If those were elected seats, we'd know the truth because change agents would point it out in their bids to take those seats. It's how things work everywhere else - Seattle is NOT somehow a special place where elected government heads are inferior.

The last thing we need is fifty more years of ST in this region, shaded from the piercing light of Slog . . . . vote no in November.

Because "Alas" is almost always used sarcastically and is a puffed-up, unnecessary word choice.

#2,

Creighton should be retained as well.

He has done a good job moving the port forward on labor, environmental and accountability issues, so his frustration with rubber-stamping colleagues like Edwards, who do not support change, is understandable.

Josh is right, Edwards is most definitely an opportunist poseur on this issue.

Josh is dead on - Edwards is a phony and must be defeated (preferably by Jack block Jr.)

He has glommed onto the Lora Lake issue to try and save his butt. I won't complain that he's doing it, but he deserves nothing in return.

Anyone who puts Bob Edwards in his place deserves kudos from all citizens, IMO.

I guess this'll have to suffice for The Stranger's coverage on the demolition of 162 units of affordable housing on Lora Lake. No article. No coverage. No LTEs. Silence. Just a reprint of someone else's e-mail. What happened to the "watchdog press"? What's the point of The Stranger if it's not providing some much-needed accountability to jerks like Creighton?

Creighton is only pointing out the obvious this is nothing more than a campaign headline at the expense of the homeless. Bob Edwards does not care about homeless or Lora Lake however he does care about losing the perks of being a Port Commissioner. No more business class seats to ASIA and other countries costing the port 6 to 7K just in air alone. He lives in a multi-million dollar home in Bellevue and I would be very interested to see if he has ever donated to charity and how much??? I am not talking about auction dinners or something far removed from actual out of pocket contribution. Look at the Port Minutes and you will find that Edwards has never had a thought of his own. So for the first time in his entire term as Commissioner he has a a real issue and it so happens when he is about to lose re-eletion????Creighton has brought on badly needed change to the port. First by asking for a full investigation of the email scandal with the Police Department, then the investigation with the Severance Package Deal between Dinsmore and Davis and heading the clean up at SouthPark. He stood alone last year right at this time when he would not budge on the issue of how much clean up was needed at SouthPark. Commissioner Davis and Edwards wanted just the standard and he wanted the most clean up possible. He stood firm to his belief that the people there deserved better for the kids that played and would play at that site. About this email if he can't handle this type of email he should get out polotics Creighton is accurate in his statement about this being nothing than a ploy to get relected. I still want to see how much Edwards contributes to the homeless ... Commissioner Edwards have you ever contributed to homeless causes? How much of your own money have you given?

To More Drama #22:
You sound like a shill for Creighton, if not Creighton himself.

"Creighton has brought on badly needed change to the port. First by asking for a full investigation of the email scandal with the Police Department, then the investigation with the Severance Package Deal between Dinsmore and Davis and heading the clean up at SouthPark."

I don't see any evidence of that change you tout. They still fancy themselved a real estate development outfit, instead of concentrating on the Port's prime mission, moving people and goods. The investigation should have found Pat Davis guilty of illegally signing an unauthorized document that would have given Dinsmore over $300,000 in unearned retirement, had a staffer not questioned it. No action resulted against Davis. She's still there. With the Port police emails, only the low-level cops suffered.

In fact, both Creighton and Edwards have consistently voted in the majority that approved sweetheart no-bid deals, kept Dinsmore in power and is trying to develop North Bay (Interbay) into commercial and residential real estate, contrary to the city's designation of waterfront property for maritime uses. Did you know that the Port turned down an excellent proposal for North Bay as a high-tech maritime enterprise development in 2004 because they wanted to see housing and commercial/retail development on the site? (Journal of Commerce, p. 1, August 2, 2007) Did you know they have continued to start every meeting with a 1-hour "executive session," flauting State open meeting laws?

The only solution is to elect a progressive majority in addition to Alec Fisken, the open meetings advocate, and Lloyd Hara, the auditor. Gael Tarleton is the best qualified candidate to run in ages. She's the candidate most likely to produce change and transparency at the Port.

I am not any of the things you refer to but I am however knowledgeable about the activity at the port. You must not read the minutes posted on the port website since you say I have "no evidence". The minutes are full of the evidence you say I lack. The investigation into the severance pay for Mic Dinsmore focused on whether the process was illegal and if it was in fact discussed amongst the Commission during Executive Session. It was clearly stated that the investigator were not evaluating/investigating the intent to defraud or if the former CEO and Commissioner Davis were in cahoots to keep this under the radar. We as taxpayers have the final word on Davis by signing the petition to have her recalled it is not up to the port. If you were as knowledgeable about the port as you state you would know that Commissioner Creighton, Fisken and Hara were upset about the severance package and it was clearly stated in the email interactions that were posted several months ago in the press. I think we have 3 good Commissioners, Creighton, Hara and Fisken. They have banded together to make some noticeable progress at the port. If you attend the Commission meetings you would also know that Commissioners Creighton and Hara are pro – open door meetings. … you need to do your homework… before posting.

To …. Ms. Double Posting - SARAJANE

Sweetie you forgot to take your meds today. As Drama stated in the posting above Commissioner Creighton may have his faults but holding back his feelings is not one of them. Personally I don’t find much wrong with the email to Edwards. Edwards obviously leaked it to the press to get much needed publicity since he is losing support in the polls. His attempt to get a sympathy vote just went down the drain along with his desire to keep Lora Lake apartments open.

Drama raised my curiosity about the activity at the port so I went to the website and read the minutes and talked with some friends and learned a lot about this Commissioner named John Creighton. Did you know that Creighton was the driving force in replacing Mic Dinsmore? He was also hesitant to give him the 6% raise that Edwards and Davis were so eager to give. I also learned that he an Attorney, Single and looking for that right person, and LOVES kids. I think I will get all dressed up and attend the next Commission Meeting.

Sarajane @23 -

I gotta agree with Rosie @24. In addition to waking up on the wrong side of the bed and being Little Miss Grumpy, you really should do your homework before posting.

Gael Tarleton, the challenger whose progressive credentials you seem to gush about, has been endorsed by Creighton (See, e.g., Josh's commentary, bottom of post).

Apparently as well, public statements made by Creighton in Tarleton's own press release seem to indicate they share the same values.
