HRC/LOGO Forum

posted by on August 10 at 8:00 AM

Joe My God liveblogged the forum last night, and it’s a great read. Here’s his conclusion…

Obama: OK, but not riveting.

Edwards: Slick, smarmy, insincere. Disappointing.

Kucinich: Amazing. Strong. Smart. Super-likeable.

Gravel: Wacky but loveable. Unelectable.

Richardson: Horrible. Soporific. Highly unlikeable.

Clinton: Same old, same old. Pre-programmed.

I give the win to Dennis Kucinich. Clinton and Obama tied for second.

Ok, we've seen JoeMyGod and Pam Spaulding's takes on the nightmare on gay street -

What do you think, Dan?

By the way, Joe left off two words from his summary of Kucinich: elfish and hallucinatory

Seriously, all he needed was a tambourine in his hand and flower behind his ear. I share his point of view, but his enthusiasm was a bit Hallmarky.

I... didn't watch it.

Good God. I've tended to appreciate Richardson's candor on the campaign trail, but after reading about his performance, I just wanted to sign up as his gay issues handler so I could slap some sense into him. I know he can be incredibly shrewd in his use of power, but would it have killed him to drive the ten minutes from the governor's mansion to a Santa Fe gay bar and ask some questions?

Dan, I think I left my underwear at your house last night. Be a doll and take a look for me.

Well, ok, Chief (spoken like Jimmy Olson to Perry White). You have the clips available. Watch it.

I am spending today thinking of signs to make for use outside of a Clinton fund raiser in SF this Sunday thrown by LGBT suckers, er, community. $250 per ticket.

How about:
"$250 for a seat in the back of the bus"

I didn't watch it either. I knew there'd be ample coverage, I'd see all the important parts anyway, and I had better things to do than to watch politicians blow smoke up my ass.

Excellent slogan, patrick!

He should've added "unelectable" for Kucinich, too.

Kucinich brought it. He was comfortable and likable because he knew that he didn't have to dance around anything, he's on the homo train.

I think Gravel was amazing! He's passionate, sincere, makes bold statements, and awesomely crazy.

Edwards was such a smarmy bastard dickhead asshole.

Richardson was a dick and totally made Melissa Ethridge snidely smirk, which I found delightful.

Obama and Hillary were just okay.

The game: we drank whenever anyone said "rights" or "born that way" and we all chose one other hot-button word to drink on—mine was family.

You know, I'm pretty happy that we're at a point where this debate even happened...who could have imagined even ten years ago that the Democratic frontrunners would appear at a debate for a LGBT audience? While there's so much further to go, this is HUGE.

It can't be that huge if Kucinich comes off as the only sane one.

Hillary's the only one smart enough to know how to get rid of DOMA and DADT. And she will make sure there is a pro gay marriage nominee for the next vacancy on the Supreme Court - where it really matters. I think she won hands down.

Dianna, they appeared at a nearly-identical debate in front of a live TV audience, sponsored by the same group, four years ago. Not quite HUGE.
