The striking armband features the Hello Kitty cat character invented by Japan's Sanrio Co in 1974 sitting atop two hearts. "Simple warning s no longer work," [said Police Colonel Pongpat Chayaphan] "This new twist is expected to make them feel guilt and shame and prevent them from repeating the offence, no matter how minor." Yes, there are women in the SPD, but the idea isn't so much a sex-identity one as much as a 'this uniform is garishly loud and ugly' one.

Of course, neither idea addresses the compromise of an officer's perception of authority, but hey.
