Guess the Headline!

posted by on August 15 at 15:44 PM

So our redesigned paper hits the streets today, and I’m curious to hear what you guys think of it.

I’m also curious to know what you think the headline of Erica C. Barnett’s lead article is.

In some inevitable redesign screw up at the printer, Barnett’s article on city council candidate Bruce Harrell was printed with this headline: CccCCCccC CCccCCCCCCCc

And my column, on the same page, has a headline that looks something like this: THET008TOLUTION

news.jpg

My column was supposed to be titled: “The 2008 Solution.”

Contest: Pick up the new issue (don’t cheat by looking on-line), read ECB’s article and tell us what the headline was supposed to be.

Can't wait to see the re-design. Here's hoping that there is plenty of whiny, bitchy, controversy over typface choices, "where's my favorite column" and readability.

Break a leg!

Oh, and imagine the fun you'd be having if this had happened to the P-I, Times or Weekly.

But since it's *your* screwup it just gets a little Slog mention.

There's a VERY easy way to cheat at this contest.

And since 5 already did, http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=291161

re: #4: The fun we'd be having in that case would also be a little Slog mention.

The most embarrassing part of the screw up on Erica's title is that it is the best written part of the piece!

What cheat sheet?

Oh, the primaries. The Stranger doesn't care about those. They backed GWB in 2000, after all.

It is the worst typo/bad proofing/printing mistake in Seattle print media in many months .... bad, bad hind tit stuff.

Makes the newly energized and better proofed/good color SGN look fab ....

You SO deserve this ... Karma??

Read the Erica article on line -

Do you mean the Erica editorial semi rant against the guy you did not endorse? Almost comical just days before the vote. Bad too late editorial decision ... and I think Harrell is on a rising curve.

Well, I guess that is what the hit piece is about.

If someone knows where I can pick one up in Renton, I'll definitely pick one up.

I still have no idea whether he's a real dude or an hoax; but either way, A. Birch Steen is GOD.

Thanks for giving him more words -- but when the fuck are you gonna give him blog-posting rights?

I didn't know the Stranger endorsed George in 2000! Scandalous.

The Stranger did not endorse Bush in 2000.

On the redesign: it's a nice start, but the cover needs work. The 3/4 across title block or whatever it's called looks like a mistake. I realize you're not willing to ditch "the Stranger" typeface logo, which is a shame, but what you've done with it here is undone-looking.

Personally, I think it should be in a block face in a red oval with an exclamation mark, like Hello! or OK!

#11: Actually, that wasn't our screw-up. It happened at the printer, as it says in Josh's post. A small point, but one that sticks in my craw anyhow.
