Going to LA

posted by on August 3 at 14:26 PM

That’s where I’ll be this weekend: far from the Blue Angels, which, despite what anyone says, I still hate.

But! For the Erica C. Barnetts of this world, there will be not one but two ways to experience the Angels this weekend: outside, neck craned, sure — but also at Western Bridge, where the planes will become part of the ambient sound installation there today and tomorrow at 1:30 pm.

Should be intense. (My review of Bill Fontana’s installation here, and a vodcast with Fontana himself here.)

Oh, and this from WB director Eric Fredericksen:

After Saturday, Western Bridge will close until mid-September, when we open “Insubstantial Pageant Faded,” with work by Martin Creed, Trisha Donnelly, Neil Goldberg, Rachel Harrison, Jeppe Hein, Anthony McCall, Julia Schmidt, Alex Schweder, Dan Webb, Jordan Wolfson, and a few others.

Going to LA to escape the blue angels is like going to hell to escape a grease fire.

Please, take me with you. They were flying back and forth over my house for 20 minutes today. My nerves are so wrecked I had to start drinking a whole hour early.

While you are in LA, check out the Sam Lee Gallery, now showing a Seattle artist in a group show.

I bet you wouldn't hate the Blue Angels if one of them invited you to ride nekkid with him for a shot around the Sound. But Mach 6 is a little difficult on the pendulant bits and pieces. Enjoy LA while we here have our serene lives disrupted by six guys desperately trying not to hit one another. If only the Blue Angels had been flying in Minneapolis this week - that bridge might have been closed!!!

God, I fucking hate the blue Angels! Every damn year! Practicing urban warfare over our populous city, strafing me all week as I try to work, spitting out god knows what pollutants in the heat of the summer. It's dangerous, dirty, expensive, loud and morally indefensible. Fucking murderers (Blue Angels pilots bombed Afghanistan, didn't they?). And it's not safe either. Air shows are not safe. Remember Ramstein in 1988? 72 spectators and 3 pilots dead, plus 346 spectators seriously burned. Whoops!

this is not a matter of residential seniority; one poorly planned vacation would be more than enough clout to comment on this horrendous mess.

boozy, poorly made-up 'pirates' hitting on young girls for weeks...? suburbanites and their pod children as far as the eye can see...? the blue angels (for whom i believe enough satisfactory modifiers have been offered)...?

i say: EIGHTY-SIX THIS ENTIRE EMBARASSING YEARLY INVASION AND NEVER LOOK BACK...!!
