onDeclarative Statement: The 1993 film Cliffhanger boasts the greatest trailer in the history of motion pictures.
Prove or disprove? (Feel free to show your work.)
Addendum #1: Can any classical music fans out there tell me the names of the songs used? I remember reading that they pieced together at least three.
Addendum #2: Why in the hell did they cut that ridiculously awesome final jump from the movie? Why?

It's various movements of Mozart's Requiem.
Oooh--until the ending.
Actually, it's Dies Irae from the Requiem, and at the end, they moosh in a quote from the ending of Tchaikowsky's 1812 overture, and part of Carmina Burana.
That's just weird.
Thank you. You've done the Lord's work.
Sweet holy moses.
Napoleon @ 2 beat me to it, but for most of the section that was entirely Mozart they added cymbal crashes that aren't in the music.
why was this movie so terrible in spite of the trailer?
You know, I don't remember that movie being all that great.
Nevertheless, this trailer has made me REALLY want to watch it again.
@6 @7 - it's a good bad movie - wholly improbable with all the good elements of a bad movie - bad guys that can't shoot straight, corny one-liners and a silly romantic subplot.
For fun, take a drink for every fake climbing moment ie a moment that anyone that climbs openly guffaws at. You'll be totally wasted after the opening scene.
Tough to beat this trailer:

from mozart's requiem, dies ire
It was a great trailer. Sadly, the trailer was vastly better than the movie.

(Actually, I REALLY want to see this now)
And that's with minimal searching. C'mon, everyone. Show me up.
Yup, Mozart Requiem, the Dies Irae movement, all but the last 20 seconds.
That's Northern Exposure's Janine Turner displaying some overwrought facial acting in this trailer. Whatever happened to her?
Cliffhanger is very watchable -- especially when compared to the calculated shitpiles that qualify as summer blockbusters these days.
My vote goes to the trailer for the first Alien http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9yEh5lUwZY
Imagine seeing this for the first time with no context but the imagery and the fucked up sounds.
Magic, which will give small childern nightmares.

AAAAGH! the cymbals!
Is there some film composers' union rule that says you can't write a soundtrack score without the fucking suspended cymbal, even if you have to add it to Mozart?
. . .whhhhooOOSHHHHhhhhh. . .
@15 You win. Best trailer ever.
If it doesn't have Elves, Hobbits, and Wizards, it's not in the running for best trailer ever.
Sorry.
Why the heck are the aliens from 3rd Rock trying to kill Sly Stallone?
wtf, magic is horrible
Homage: Janine Turner was felled by a nasty attack of dry eye.
I agree with Tim. The Alien trailer definitely wins.
addendum #2: 'cause it's a cliffhanger, duh.
at 7 and 11: i know!! please don't anybody rent this from on 15th in the next week...
at 12: man, talk about trailers that are probably wwwaaaaaayyyy better than the movies they advertise.
that is all.
