I really miss ACT-UP and the days when we were not willing to compromise on full equality and full liberty. And what ever happened to the quilt anyway?
Let's go protest something this weekend. Woot!
@ Mr Poe... I am all for going to the mega churches on the eastside and throwing condoms at the congergations!
What about sneaking condoms into the hymnals?
start carving "FOR A GOOD TIME, CALL GOD" into confessional walls.
@ Cato - make sure you drop by and throw some condoms at Pastor Hutch while you're out there...
Porn would be funny, too.
@6, Hutch will get the used condoms thrown at him. But am I doing this by myself? (Starting to feel like the only liberal on Slog anymore)
Gee....the other day there was a post at SLOG about the hopeless meaningless pointless task of protesting the Iraq war...and the comments all supported the folly of engaging in such an act.
As long as the religious demonstration is planned at a time when most people are conveniently able to participate and feel like they will be most disruptive and not crowded by socialists and Palestinians then its a GO!
Its too bad the Christian zealots don't let the aesthetics stop them from making a stink.

i discovered the second church is one just a couple of blocks away from me. they have a giant banner up that says "open to all;" it always warms my heart when i pass by even though i'm not a church-goer myself.
@ Patrick, I remember hearing that some people on that thread (Original Andrew comes to mind) stating that protests are useless but I was keeping my mouth shut, biting my tounge...and am still trying to.... anger at those apathatic people rising rising... grrrrrrr!!!
Even more fun would be to have a bunch of folks innocently visit the appointed church for services that morning...and when the protest began, for them to participate from the inside. Make the churchgoers mistrustful of newcomers ever after, thereby screwing with their goal of ever-expanding attendance and membership, perhaps.
Are we actually going to plan something awesome? I love the idea of throwing condoms at a Church. I love the idea of throwing anything at a Church. Condoms, diaphragms, colt mags, joints, beers, rocks, boulders, pip...um, okay, maybe not that. But still.
Condoms & sex ed pamphlets would be sufficient.
@ Mr Poe, I am all for it. But anytime we tried to protest stuff on Slog (Club Lagoon anyone?) no one seemed to really want to do it. (they had a thing with a guy)
Think of it as on line hook ups: everyone is all into it until you mention a place and time.
Apathetic people rising?
Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of listless men,
It is the music of a people who won't do much again....
@14
May have something to do with meeting other sloggers.
Online hookups are dangerous. You never know when you'll hit up an Alex Forrest, or worse, a Mike Jones.
Throwing used condoms is so 1989. Why not try a clever reversal, like handing out gay porn mags outside the church door?
@ Mr Poe, eewwwww!! Mike Jones!!! YUCK!! I'm going to go straight now!
@8 Throwing condoms does not a liberal make you. To be honest, it's probably the opposite.
I think it would be fun to go do some kind of protest at Mars Hill Church. Somehow sneak past all of their security guards posted at the doors and then during the services start making inappropriate sexual noises or something. Maybe even fly Felicia Fellatio up so she could run down the aisle to jump up on stage to squat down and let the "bizness" just blow in the holy winds of disbelief!
"Jesus would wear a condom."
@19. Not getting the sarcasim are you?
And yes Jesus would wear a condom AND buy breakfast the next morning. At someplace nice too, not McDonald's.
Cato the Younger Younger,
Oh sure - it's all my fault. Did you know that my apathy also caused the LA Riots and Hurricane Katrina?
A few more of these and I'll have my very own "Department of It's All My Fault" column.
I'm not apathetic - I'm realistic. I'm focusing on areas where I can actually make a difference, like gay rights. For example, I went to Olympia in February for Equality Day and asked my legislators to pass the Comprehensive Sex Ed and Domestic Partnership bills. Oh, sweet success!! We don't have marriage yet but I'll go back every year until we do, and I’ve met my state legislators and their staff members.
I also vote in every election and give money to politicians I support and organizations that I believe in, like Lambda Legal, and encourage others to do the same.
How about you?
