City Hall Gets Involved In Gay Bashing Incident

posted by on August 9 at 15:41 PM

After City Council member Tom Rasmussen contacted SPD Chief Gil Kerlikowske about a possible gay-bashing incident in Belltown, which I wrote about yesterday, SPD is reviewing the case.

City Council Rasmussen’s office contacted the Chief and requested the department investigate whether the officer’s report, which does not list the incident as a possible hate crime, should to be amended.

The assault is now being investigated by SPD’s “bias crimes” unit

You need an apostrophe on "officers' report."

Is this a lesson in humility, or what?

Ways to get your violent crime investigated:

1. Perpetrator is caught in the act.
2. You receive large amounts of media attention.
3. You are murdered.

Ways to get your property crime investigated:

1. Perpetrator is caught in the act.
2. There is no Number Two, and let's face it, Number One doesn't happen that damn often.

Let's face facts. SPD is occasionally useful, but in the past two years my partner and I were robbed while we were asleep in our house to which the officer told me that it was up to the insurance company and bank to press an investigation. I and my office staff witnessed 2 people being inappropriately treated by 2 cops in Belltown (including one having his mouth jammed opened by one of them in some sort of police hold) and was harassed myself by an SPD officer that when I filed a complaint against him for his harassment, had their internal review bureau on the phone with me multiple times to "settle the matter" so it didn't appear on his record. Far as I'm concerned the police department is either:

1) stretched (for which city council should be taken to task)

2) full of arrogant pricks that didn't get their control issues over with in high school that now have freer rein since they have fancy new laws and equipment due to 9/11 (which is still the excuse du jour to justify all they do) or

3) some combination of the above.

I have neither respect or time in general for at least half the cops or their superiors. Our illustrious chief is an arrogant jackass that couldn't find a crime if it bit him in the ass.

While you're at it, don't turn to the Office of Civil Rights in the city for help either. They too are useless and without teeth.
