Mornin’, Slog! It’s time for the sensation that is Tay Zonday…

Chocolate Rain, why so catchy? Chocolate Rain, why so popular? Chocolate Rain, why can’t I stop singing Chocolate Rain?

I JUST saw this guy yesterday for the first time. I don't know why I'm captivated by him, but I'm sure it has something to do with this.

It's the voice and the beat.

Good interview on G4 TV during The Show.

Lyrics are lulzworthy. Is this song supposed to be funny? 'Cause otherwise I'm an insensitive bastard

People see this and they're not really sure what to make of it. DO they make fun of the guy for being such a weirdo and yet puts himself on the internet for all to see? Do they applaud this, along with his rich baritone voice and the fact that he's somewhat embraced all the internet scrutiny?

That's part of what makes Tay Zonday such a phenomenon. The reaction isn't obvious.

What a voice! Weirdo? What's weird about being an artist?

His "Motherless Child" is really rough, but he's got something to work with.

It's just tragic the way the yoot of today, with all their hip-hop, are so completely ignorant of real black musical traditions, if the YouTube commentary is anything to go by. I know, I know, I shouldn't use YouTube to represent anything, but jeez.

Reminds me of John Mayer's mouth when he sings, but this guy isn't nearly as bad.

Awesome voice! Catchy composition and the kid is delightfully nerdy.

This is incredible!

But my inner Mudede suspects RACISM!!!

Is he pausing for effect, taking a breath, or is there an off-screen teleprompter that he keeps looking at?

the best comment on youtube was "you have an interesting voice and very oily skin." he's a grad student by the way, but i thought he was that crash test dummies front man trapped in a 12 yr olds body.

@16 - the original video has notes from the artist and one of them indicates he moves away from the microphone to take breaths.

This song IS catchy. I have no idea what he's talking about... diarrhea possibly?

16. He wasn't accustomed to breathing inbetween singing lines without making noise on the recording, so he moved away from the mike to breathe in. He has since figured out how to manage and no longer does this.

is he just singing (in that remarkable "old man riva" baritone) over the exorcist theme?
