Slog - Comments on The Border Sucks http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/08/border_sucks For some reason there is free Wi-Fi at the Surrey, BC/Blaine, WA border crossing. That is the good news. The bad news is I'm stuck here for an estimated four hours. I've never seen anything like it. At around 8:30 am, the line of cars was already exceptionally long. The only sane way to travel by ground between Seattle and Vancouver is the train. No other option offers a clear path through this maddening mess of cars and border officers.... Pre-9/11, I used to regularly go up to Vancouver for a weekend's entertainment, at least every month or two. Now I avoid that stupid border crossing like the plague. I haven't gone up to Vancouver just for the hell of it in a couple years. Now I only go if I really have to. Last time, I flew.
