Another Young Republican Rapist

posted by on August 8 at 17:25 PM

It’s been a good week for the Young Republicans. First the newly elected head of the Young Republican National Federation resigned after allegations surfaced that he sexually assaulted another young Republican. And now the former head of the Michigan Federation of Young Republicans—a man that gave a speech at the Republican National Convention in 1992 and is still active in the organization—has pleaded guilty to rape. Oh, and was he gracious about it

Michael Flory, a 32-year-old attorney from Jackson, Mich., pleaded guilty to sexual battery on the day he was to stand trial for rape. The teary-eyed college student he overpowered in a downtown hotel room gasped and dabbed her eyes as Flory replied to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Peter Corrigan’s question, “Are you indeed guilty?”

Sure—yeah,” Flory said.

Flory raped his victim during the the a Young Republicans convention last July in Ohio. And what did Flory and his Republican buddies do after his victim filed charges? They smeared her, of course.

[His victim] and some supporters lamented when the incident became public last winter that Flory and his followers within the Republican organization had been smearing her reputation in retaliation for accusing Flory of rape. [Assistant County Prosecutor Carol Skutnik] said she found that to be true.

“People were using every opportunity to try to trash her, on Web sites or whatever,” the prosecutor said. “He’s been running around telling everybody what a piece of trash she is, so she was very happy to see him plead guilty.”

Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, David Vitter, Bob Allen—this is the party that wants to micromanage your sex life. Christ almighty.

Okay, who's organizing the infiltration of next year's Young Republican Convention with digital cameras? I mean, from the record they're building up, we could probably put together a huge documentary about GOP debauchery and crime.

It's deja vu.

(A correction you already have experienced, no doubt.)

Power (real or perceived) breeds this kind of pig. Dem or Republican, men with power are dicks and they're not afraid to use them.

Posted by scout | August 8, 2007 6:48 PM

and yetso many Americans will still faithfully support the republicans party. it doesn't make any sense.

So,Dan. Would you dispute that this posting makes you look like a man who sees domestic politics in terms of TWO parties?
fuck donkeys. fuck elephants. please use your influence to promote other options.

Step back and think about it, Dan--this is WHY they want government to micromanage people's sex lives: these people themselves CANT CONTROL THEMSELVES and think someone's gotta STOP them from THEMSELVES and their sinful uncontrollable urges...

Perhaps a huge scorecardisneeded showing drug use, rapies, illegal sex, and ties to the various campaigns?

Like that guy in SC selling coke who was a leader of the campiagn for Rudy? Or was it McCain?

This is from fox news on a Fla. legislator/McCain campaign official:

"TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A Republican state lawmaker charged with offering to perform oral sex for $20 on an undercover male police officer vowed Thursday to defend himself in court and said he would not resign from office.

"'I am filing a not guilty plea. I am vigorously going to fight this,' state Rep. Bob Allen, a co-chair of Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign in Florida, said at a news conference. 'I am not resigning my office because the people elected me and want me to do a good job. I am going to do a good job for them in finishing this term.'

"Allen called his arrest 'an ugly and unpleasant situation that has been thrust on me and my family.' The lawmaker had sponsored a failed bill that would have tightened the state's prohibition on public sex.

"He choked up when he thanked backers who had contacted him to offer their support. He warned people not to jump to conclusions about what happened but said he could not offer any details about the arrest because of his legal strategy. Allen is married and has a teenage daughter."
[The story continues].

Since the arrest he has blamed this incident on the fact he saw several African Americans in the area....

Yah, and he thouht they were going to rob him. I know my first reaction when I think I'm about to be robbed is to offer to suck the dick of the would-be robber. It really warms them up to you.

iamnotstarjones @ 6,

Unfortunately, it makes perfect sense - this is what most Americans are like. People vote for those who are like them. It's the same reason that Bush II hasn't and won't be impeached; most Americans are just like him.

I have a question. All these defectives clearly join the Republican party in a sad and doomed effort to squelch their violent sexual tendencies. The bigger the freak, the more they go on the warpath. Given that: what must be going on inside the head of Fred Phelps? What bacterial disease has eaten the synapses in his head, and what must they be now telling him to do?

Posted by Big Sven | August 9, 2007 1:18 AM

Fucked Up. It's really too bad we only have a douchebag or a turd-sandwhich to choose from. Either way we're totally screwed.

Posted by JessB | August 9, 2007 7:31 AM

How much rape can be on one website? This is insane. I know we all like to point fingers and claim moral high ground but what you are really doing is the same thing Hollywood action movies do: hyping violence against women.

Au contraire. If you're implying that posting to a blog about current events is equivalent to promoting those events, the media is guilty of promoting every brutal, nasty and inhumane act under the sun. Learn to differentiate between reporting and supporting.

Posted by Ursula | August 9, 2007 8:23 AM

@19 - Posting to a blog is different then covering it on TV? The delivery format somehow changes the content? I'm afraid that makes no sense at all.

Posted by Ryan | August 9, 2007 8:36 AM

I think Ambrose Bierce said it best:

"The slightest acquaintance with history shows that powerful republics are the most warlike and unscrupulous of nations"

Posted by Original Monique | August 9, 2007 9:21 AM

I'd rather that it was reported, and maybe hyped a little, than have it not reported, as if we were pretending it didn't ever happen.
