The P-I has since changed it's headline to read "Man shot near East Precinct". Not that anyone knows what that means.

ETC = Et Cetera, or "and so on", which is probably what you do mean.

Specifically, you have to have violence with your life. Period.

Duh.

Rather than displaying our superior virture by moaning about violence, why not figure out if we actualy have more of it than similar cities, and if so, what to do about it?

More cops? Fewer cops spending time planting drugs on citizens? Lots of corrective action can be discussed. But the attempt to blame violence on nightlife is dumb. If violence is concentrated anywhere specific -- near nightlife or any other venue like ATMs or schools or the corner store -- the cops should learn this and get out there on the street and stop the violence.

And yes we will never be totally successful and some shootings will always be near a bar because bars are in crowded districts and that's where people are.

Duh.

When Tom Wales got shot on QA Hill, no one said "let's shut down all these fine Craftsman houses....."

@ Cincinatus, I was just waiting for your delightful response (or one similar to it). Hell, in my previous posting on this subject posted below in Slog I am all for the violence. If it frees up traffic in anyway: I am all for it!

Do headline writers (and Stranger staff) ever bother to read the articles before writing their stuff?

a) This town has crappy cops reporters;
b) This town's dailies have lazy copy editors;
c) The urge to "get online" has spurred all of the above to post a story before the facts are even close to being out. Then, when the monkeys in broadcast news pick up the scraps and turn them into a "story collage," everything goes to hell.

Hooray for the nation's journalism schools.

Others made the point that after they shut down Venom, Tabella, Belltown Billiards, J&M, etc.. They will likely come after places that Slog readers DO like.

I hope the reporting of this opens a few more eyes.

And, with those sirens, it's time to start enforcing the noise limits too ...

@ Will - Everyone knows it's not the pots that make it dangerous, it's the type of plants in the pots. Just can't have any of those hip hop plants.

If you read the details about the most recent Belltown shooting, you will find that Tabella wasn't involved either - they actually acted very responsibly.

The point is simply that the there are links in the media to violence and nightclubs and that just because you see a list of Belltown clubs/bars that you don't frequent and it makes you breathe a sigh of relief, it could very well be a false sense of security you are feeling and they can just as easily come after a place you DO like next.
