I am glad that the Plume lawsuit was dismissed. It is vital that in this great Reich... er I mean republic, that we protect our Glorious and God Given Leaders at all costs. *opps* I may have said too much. HEIL BUSH!!! PRAISE TO THE GREAT LEADER!!!!

Hey, any guesses what the administration will do to inact the two (used to be one but now TWO) presidential directives? (The one from May 19th and the latest one this week) Not that I am going to jump to any sort of conclusions but.......

Well, I’ve just stepped out of my DeLorean, and I’ve brought you news from November, 2007:

General Petraeus: “The War in Iraq is hard, but we’ve Turned a Corner® and we need time to achieve supreme Victory® - six more months, tops!”

Preznit Bush: “Only dirty terrahists question my plans for the Iraqazoids. Go shopping and find Jayzus!”

New York Times: “Anonymous government sources assure us that we’re going to win the Iraq War and the upcoming Iran War – And We Believe Them!”

Democratic Congress: “We’re just innocent bystanders… or we don’t have the votes to do anything… or the Washington media will tell us that we’ll face a massive voter backlash if we try to impeach our Dictators-in-Chief. We’re going to hide under the covers until this whole thing blows over.”

Supremacist Court: “We proclaim that Preznit Bush is your Unitard Executive God, and you must supplicate yourselves immediately. The vote was 5 to 4.”

Hmmm Transfats...interesting discussion. But yeah it is the nanny state gone out of control. Instead of doing something postive for Seattle (rapid public transit, housing the homeless) they use "look over there" tactic and focus on Transfats. Is anyone really falling for it?

YES, I'm falling for it. They banned certain poisons from restaurant foods. It doesn't cost billions of dollars like rapid transit or homeless housing. I'm proud to be living in a county that is a leader in this area -- New York City is the only major metropolitan area ahead of us in menu labelling and trans fat regulation. See this press release by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the lobbying group responsible for almost all consumer-friendly nutrition laws.

King County also passed a regulation to require nutrition labels on chain restaurant (10+ location) menu boards starting Aug '08. Remember, it was only a few years ago that nutrition and ingredient labels on packaged foods were nonexistent. You had no idea if you were eating packaged foods that had 200 calories or 1000 calories, and you had no idea if the food you were eating contained allergens, carcinogens, or a heaping spoonful of aspartame. That's what's happening at chain restaurants until this law goes into effect.

You might consider labeling laws and food regulations "nanny state laws," but they're for the good of public health. Banning trans fats will save many millions in WA public health spending. The alternative is allowing chain restaurants to save a few cents off the price of a large fries by using poisonous trans fats instead of sliiightly more expensive alternatives, which are indistinguishable to the consumer.

Regular fats taste better than trans fats anyways, I don't get what the big uproar is about.

Hmm, would I like my frites done in commercial partially hydrogenated fats? Or would I like them done in vegetable oil or lard? I'd go for option 2, every time.
