The republicans are always whining about the unions supporting dems. If they weren't so busy sucking up to the corporations and superrich and tried supporting the needs of working families perhaps they'd get some of that dough too. I certainly don't see their coffers hurting for funds. Idiots.
That said, the Union has done a huge diservice to the workers by making membership mandatory. That one move that got them so much cash took away the only raise state employees had gotten in years. I support unions, I'm a third generation union member. But if you are so ineffective that you can't even get the workers to join your union without mandating it in law you have bigger problems than cash flow. WFSE is pathetic.
Hey, Jonah: go away. We get it. You're being a cunt.
No kidding. Can we please bounce his posts to Pluto or something?
Other John, I agree with you to a point - but the trouble with not mandating union membership is that so many people would take what the union fought for, but not support it financially if membership were not required.
I quite unexpectedly now belong to a union, and I can see the strengths and weaknesses of the system from an inside perspective. Overall, I think it's a good thing for my co-workers and I, but I also think that too many workers have no interest in the union, which leads to special interests running the show.
Meanwhile, as union members get 25 percent increases, CEOs got another 150 percent increase in the same period.
Sorry, I'm not going to listen to your anti-union carp.
