*sigh* Yes, the intestinal cramps were from his behavior. Not from an illness, not from the stress of editing a mag that has a circulation of 12, and not from that questionable seafood... no it's the behavior he'd been performing for more than a decade.

Gah.

Well, good for him, if it makes him happy. But I doubt that's the case.

At first I read it too fast and thought he was claiming to have picked up something from his relationship with god. *Rimming the Divine* almost sounds like a sermon.

Is there any proof that this magazine, or Venus for that matter, actually existed before, and these "scandals" are not manufactured conversion scenarios from the kook wing?

I don't believe in God or Young Gay America Magazine because nobody can prove that either really exists.

There seems to be indication in the piece that Glatze is now straight. He just seems to have been so ashamed of his homosexuality - and any sexual expression whatsoever - that he became celibate. Bet he'll he sucking cock before the month is out.

I picked up a copy of Venus two years ago and it seemed like a regular mag like BUST or something, not a lebsbian mag run by a self-denying weirdo.

You see, he did the math and he needs $50,000 to stay straight, otherwise its back to gaytown. I mean, staying straight is expensive.

So please, send your money to this paypal account....

Woo hoo hoo, I love how apparently straight couples don't do the same thing gay guys do.

Last night with the hubby says different, but then, I'm not a total idiot.

Maybe running gay themed publications with poor circulation turns you straight. Hey, this gives me an idea. If we can make people forget Seattle Gay News exists and shrink its circulation down to nothing, could George Bakan maybe be turned straight, and then replaced with someone who can spell and use proper grammar?

Young Gay America was a relatively short-lived publication, but the web site which preceded it (younggayamerica.com, now offline) used to be a very popular site for gay and lesbian teens, especially those in rural areas who had no gay outlets whatsoever. YGA hosted among the first major forums for gay teens, long before anyone knew what a "blog" was.

Those of us who knew of YGA and the work they did are very distraught by Mike's apparent change and his decision to become an ex-gay posterboy.

Folks, say what you will, but we lost a good one today. :(

I finally found an actual link to something this guy did: a movie called "Jim in Bold".
http://www.jiminbold.com/yga.cfm

YGA is described as "a long-term research project/road trip adventure". I think one issue of the magazine came out, which hardly makes it a periodical, and that was several years ago. His domains, other than the movie one (which probably isn't his) have long since expired.

I think he's a boob who thought that driving around was a kind of art, until the money ran out, and now he needs a life. I think being gay is the least of his problems.

@7,

Those are two different publications. Venus Zine, which is what you picked up, is almost exactly the same as Bust. They've even had the same cover story in the same month a number of times.

Venus Magazine's publisher is the infamous ex-lesbian.

I wonder which ex-gay or fundie or both wrote that red herring. I think I recall him [Dan] expressing regret for writing that "analysis". I enjoy the humor and sincerity Dan's political commentary often contains, even though I seldom agree with it except in cases concerning lgbt rights--and even then, rarely how he arrives at his conclusions. I enjoy his non-political satire, sex advice, and semi autobiographical writings much, much more.

I disagree that we "lost" a worthy ally. Glatze is a weak man, and he was always a weak man ( I use the word 'man' in its loosest sense). This weakness does not just refer to his will, but also his intellect. We neither need nor should want advocates who lack the cognitive resources to reason effectively, provide any kind of real argument, and lack the class to keep their generic, malicious, false and ill-conceived opinions to themselves.

If I had to guess, his self-perceived significance as a gay rights advocate was waning, and he will try a new "controversial" avenue to capture the attention he seemingly craves by broadcasting his message to anyone who will listen. There's also a chance for profit in the ex gay industry. Make no mistake, this is an industry; one without standards, but an industry nonetheless. It seems he tried to turn a profit while being a professional gay, too. Weak man.

I think the issue has a lot to do with power and the ability to control people.

Michael's attempts at changing his orientation and it being published on the web confuses people to thinking that they too could change if they try very hard. Reluctant testimony is a strong persuasive style at getting confused or questioning people over to your side. It's harmful if that reluctant testimony is used to harm a group of people that wants rights and protection.

With that said, we don't even know what the guy looks like. Could his "switch" be linked to the guy's ability to find himself a partner? Assuming that this is the case hypothetically, since he couldn't find some young twink to bang and be with, he's gonna take it out on an entire community.

If people buy into this sort of crap that, then he has power.

If people buy into this sort of crap that, then he has power.

Those that will generate improvement by removing themselves from associating and being associated with the "community" from which they seek separation. If he hadn't, and those that will wouldn't as a result, their continued involvement does nothing to advance the cause. Then, suggest that this intellectual dynamo acted alone and then acquaint yourself with the facts. Good riddance. The regret is that it's not permanent.

As to the power to harm...of wingnut daily and the exodus stooges, that is weilded over the damaged detritus that are attracted to those extremes.

And if you want irony, the impact his latest words will have on lgbt teen suicide erase the insignificant efforts he invested toward drawing attention to it.

christianity is purposefully targeting gays because they need us because we are a lot smarter than most of their straight members. So they are purposefully enticing gay men with pictures of a god (jesus) who has long blonde hair and wears a tunic that looks a lot like one of those maternity dresses that pregnant women wear. so gay men go "goddamn that Jesus is kinda hot" maybe I will accept him.Secretly gay men want to go to heaven so that they can tongue kiss jesus one day. that is the christian conspiracy. so what is my point? it is....why the fuck do you christians hate gays but have a god who looks like a transexual man trying to look like paris hilton? huh? I mean Jesus looks like a chick!

yeah. some jehovas witnesses came to my door too and gave me some jesus porn. it was a pamphlet with jesus puckering his lips, with his long blonde hair blowing in the wind, wearing a peach colored maternity dress. they told me that jesus loves me. So i asked them how many other men jesus loves because i am the jealous type and dont want to share jesus with anybody else........then they left....I felt so dejected. Its all a lie. Jesus doesnt just love you....he loves all men....so dont become a christian or you will end up heartbroken when jesus cheats on you

You know that in German "Glatze" means "skinhead." Yes, the fag-bashing, jew-hating, neo-nazi type.

Just a coincidce.

Does anyone really care about "gays" turning into fundamentalist christians? I've always suspected these people aren't really gay (LUG-style) and are just trading one annoying affectation for another.

I've known Mike for 6 years. He's not crazy or a skinhead or anything. He's obviously deeply hurt and frustrated by something in his life. I just can't believe he swung so far away. He introduced me to queer theory for god's sake (no pun intended)!

Pregunta,
Isn't there a support group for x-x-gays. Shouldn't they organize and get back in their faces. I mean ... in my sumation ... in 15 years or so we'll all wish we were gay. Like I think I mentioned before, without us straight people making your lives miserable, you would really have it made. But until then ... 15 years or so ... by then he'll realize how much of an ass he was, how unfaithful he was to himself etc. etc. and life goes on. The prodigal son returns.
