Politics That Pampered Politician

onRemember when conservatives insisted we just had to impeach Bill Clinton because, amongst other things, he took calls from politicians and world leaders while getting blowjobs? He defiled the White House, demeaned his office, and somehow violated all those innocent politicians and world leaders?
Well, well, well: Sen. David Vitter (R-Depends) took calls from the DC Madam in the Capitol Building when he was still a Congressman—and at least two of the calls came as he was casting votes. So he’s pretty much got to resign, right?
Of course not!
Sen. Jim DeMint, a Republican from South Carolina, doesn’t think we should be too hard on poor Mr. Vitter. Because when it comes to Republican sex scandals that “judge not lest ye be judged” crap in the bible apparently kicks in.
“We all think that we’re not vulnerable to something like that happening,” DeMint said, “but the fact is this can be a very lonely and isolating place to be away from your family. So I’m certainly not going to judge him because I don’t want that kind of pressure on me.”
Sen. DeMint voted to impeach Bill Clinton.

Ann Coulter will later write a piece about how Vitter was a closet liberal and find the most ridiculous reasons as to why.
Is it just me, or does that look like DeMint saying he's done the same or worse?
Levislade - that definitely seems like a reading to me.
Off with their heads!
Levislade: On the nosey!
Read between DeMint's lines: He's on the list.
I think DeMent, er, DeMint is actually saying "I understand how the pressures of being a congressman can make a man want to frequent brothels and wear diapers."
DeMint isn't saying that he's necessarily done such a thing, but is saying that he understands how it could happen and doesn't want to criticize Vitter in case it happens to him in the future. In other words, he's keeping his options open.
I think DeMint is just GGG.
Ohhh man. What a bunch of lying assholes.
Dan, the more us liberals focus on stupid shit like this (which I'm assuming, though could be wrong, you would champion in your column if he didn't have a 'GGG'), you are not focusing on the issues that actually matter.
We already know that brothel served Dems as well (OK, only one that I'm aware of, but certainly there are others). End Of Discussion.
ka-chunk,
I disagree. Every opportunity we have to expose the blatant, unabashed hypocrisy of these vile critters to their constituents should be exploited. For far too long the MSM, and their own voters have turned a blind eye to their transgressions, giving tacit approval to the double-standard which they seem to believe makes them immune from the same sort of rebuke and criticism they invariably inflict on their political opponents.
"What's good for the goose is good for the gander", as the old saying goes, and if they want to continue to berate and even go so far as to prosecute Democrats for these kinds of behaviors, then they had better get used to the idea of receiving similar treatment when their own salacious activities are exposed.
I agree with you in that they are vile in their hypocrisies & double standards. I do think though that articles like that expose salacious predilections of these 'critters' are not nearly as important as other issues that aren't as tantalizing.
This is just my sentiment, but tit-for-tat is fucking childish...but makes for a great story for a sex columnist with a political slant!
I agree with Comte...I could care less what politicians do in their private lives, UNLESS they're whole political career is built on coming into my bedroom, in which case they should be exposed and thrown to the fucking wolves. The ones who stay out of my private life are entitled to their own. The ones who espouse "family values" should be thrown out of office, those fucking hypocrites.
Oopsie, should say "their political careers." It's 7:30 a.m. here, cut me some slack.
In threes you say?

ka-chunk @ 12,
The American public doesn't give a flying frak about "issues" or "policies" or "laws" no matter how destructive. They're just too stupid - how do you think these assholes got elected in the first place?
Two months ago, Harper's devoted an entire issue to how we're ever going to recover from the Bush years, and you know the preposterous answer? We need to "debate" the "issues."
How can a nation still traumatized by Janet Jackson's breast really give a frak about "debating" anything? Public discourse in this nation is totally moronic.
What the public does care about are gotchas, salacious gossip and public humiliation which the Rethuglican psychos provide in spades. If exposing them is enough to tip another election then let's go for it.
Jesus, Jim DeMint is such an asshole. Everything that comes out of that man's mouth is fucking toxic.
Original Andrew is 1000% correct - too bad Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice and the rest are asexual , because the news media might otherwise have a reason to turn on them at last
Okay -- so, how do we go about humiliating the Huggies Repulicans who are all in favor of Vitter scheduling the nasty from the hallowed halls of power.
What's next? Hot Karls in the cloak room?
Original Andrew & Peter@18, you are completely right.
I think Dan needs to take a whack at making "Vitter" a lower-case word like santorum. Especially since the guy has no intention of resigning. These guys are shameless.
This just goes to prove that the main concern of this paper is to expose people as being as deprived as a majority of readers.
Have fun guys, your definately making out world a little worse off...
dan, do you understand that the charges that clinton was impeached on were obstruction of justice and perjury? (you know, those highly illegal things that libby did...) not for cheating on his wife or getting a blowjob in the oval office.
because it doesn't seem like you understand that.
Republicans are all the same, changing their beliefs to fit in to whatever they want to do.
Bush says he's a Christian and yet he has no problem killing people everyday, they just do what the want with no care to everyone else in the world.
If there is a hell I can guarantee it's filled with republicans.
