ABC says Al Qaeda may have scheduled a “spectacular” attack for this summer, although the department of homeland security says nothing’s “imminent.”

"Spectacular" sounds gay. (No offense).

Meanwhile, a little shepherd boy would like our attention about the wolf that just came back to the field he was watching over.

Really.

Al Qaeda has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil?

Damn, but ABC was really hoping that the Spectacular event would really prove to be a ratings booster. I know President Bush was hoping for that sort of a ratings boost!

How do we know these al Qaeda operatives don't just make this shit up off the top of their heads when they're talking to Federal agents, knowing the agents will leak the info to the media, the media will run with it and everyone will get paranoid and scared?

Has anyone started a pool? Can you bet on this in Vegas?

I'd like to put money on late September or ealry October of next please! I'd also bet that anything in between now and then (for the US) is just Dept. of Fatherland teases to keep people freaked out.

Fascism 101

So, KX One, is the German government also being fascist, since they have been warning about the same thing? I cannot stand the Bush administration, but I also cannot stand these people who casually throw out accusations of fascism.

I don't do it casually, it's just impossible to tell what is real or not anymore because this country has slid into a state of fascism that is sharply accented by a constant stream of lies from 'our' gov't. The fact that I can't believe ANTHING this administration says, because I am so used to them lying about EVERYTHING and hiding EVERYTHING are some of the basic symptoms of fascism, not a free, and open democratic society.

Don't take my word for it, there are several studies online listing the 10 or 13 or 14 componets of fascism and detailing how the US has now met nearly every one of them. All but one IIRC. Seriously, check 'em out.

For all we know the Germans are using our bad intelligence in good faith (on their part). If the truth is ever revealed, we will all ho-hum yet another duplicitious act by 'our' gov't to keep us in a state of fear to keep us under their control. It's become so commonplace it hardly warrants a murmur anymore in most of the press. Or is buried under a mountain of crap in the form of celebrity 'reporting' that passes for news these days. But then again that 'liburl' media is owned by GE, and other megacorps, so really, what more can you expect?

What's the best case scenario here? That some terrorist is yanking our chains? Or that some poor innocent schmuck who got dragged out of his home in the middle of the night and taken from one notorious prison to another was tortured until he lied about an upcoming terrorist attack in the hopes that we would stop torturing him? Glad we still have choices in this country! If you hurry you might still get to choose the color of our armbands! Most likely during American Idol.

No I don't think modern Germany is a fascist state. In addition, one hopes that unlike us, they've learned their lesson on that front for a long time to come.

" I cannot stand the Bush administration, but I also cannot stand these people who casually throw out accusations of fascism."

You know what I can't stand? People who lump other people all together in a category and call them 'these people' when they know nothing about them as individuals. Hi! I'm not a person, I'm your personal strawman. People who do that? I can't fucking stand them. They dehumanize everyone and put everything into black or white categories. No I'm not a democrat, no I'm not a hippy, no I'm not an alarmist. What IS fucking alarming is that I am a realist, and I have studied history all my life and after rejecting this conclusion for a long time, I have sadly accepted that the reality of the situation is that we do live in a fascist state.

I'm calling it what it is. You can live in denial all you want, but this is obviously a fascist police state, that has lied so much that nothing it says is believable.

I wish I was just "casually throwing the accusation" out there.

Odds? No not me, I'm no bookie, and truth be told, i'm not usually a betting man, but these things I'd bet on. After all I'm betting on the house and the house always wins. Hell, I'd be happy to be wrong, if I'm wrong we all win!

But warning of WHAT? If you don't have any specifics to give, then the warning is pointless.

SOMETHING BAD TO HAPPEN SOMEDAY, POSSIBLY SOON! BOUND TO BE SOMETHING TERRIBLE!

From what I can glean from most horoscopes, it also looks like we are all: fun and outgoing, but can be shy. We also strive for perfection, but know our limits.

I believe we also love to go out, but need time by ourselves.

Maybe Bush could consult the horoscopes to get better accuracy of when these attacks will happen. ;)

"...the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley's broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else... almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’" -George Orwell

I would love to hear K X One's solution to this era of fascism we are living in.

flippancy will get you nowhere

Fascism has a definition, look it up, then look up the studies I mentioned. Just because a word is frequently misused doesn't mean it is meaningless.

Just because much of the populous is ignorant or doesn't use language properly doesn't mean that we all need to throw our hands in the air and stop using words.

You don't like that word? Come up with some other word that means the same thing and get everyone on board with using that instead. But I suspect it is because you don't really understand what it means that you don't like the word.

Andrew, I'm not in the solution business, and even if I was Americans wouldn't be buying. Frankly, I'm stumped, my personal decision is to immigrate to a civilised country, unfortunately my plan will take a few years to come to fruition.

Do you have a solution?
