Me So Hornety

Seth Rogen, action star?

The doughy star of this summer’s breakout hit, “Knocked Up,” is finalizing a deal to write, and likely star in, Columbia’s bigscreen adaptation of “Green Hornet.” He will exec produce, along with co-writer and frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg.

Rogen would play Brit Reid, millionaire publisher-turned-masked crime fighter — a role George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal flirted with in various stages of the project’s long gestation.

That’s the best movie news I’ve heard since Jack Black was in talks to play Green Lantern.

The Green Hornet movie has been in development hell for at least a decade. Kevin Smith was the last big name attached to the movie. He was supposed to write and direct it, but he wussed out when he realized he doesn’t have an f-ing clue about how to direct action. The Weinsteins even told Smith they’d get someone else to direct the action as long as he wrote the film and handled the non-actiony stuff, but it was still a no go.

I am giddy with nerd-excitement. Seth Rogen has a great, albeit short, track record but I hope like crap this Green Hornet movie doesn’t run off the rails like the last dozen did.

Now, who the hell is gonna play Kato???

Please stop trying to be nerdy on the Slog, you guys.

Just...please.

Had such a crush on Van Williams. Of course, he showed more skin in "Surfside 6."

With Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet the obvious choice to play Kato is Paul Rudd.

Knocked Up kinda sucked if you ask me.

Will Green Hornet become afraid of women in this film adaptation?

Will he and Kato fight a band of sex hungry viragos obsessed with changing the lives of hapless, good natured man-boys?

With a schlub as the Green Hornet, that only suggests one thing to me: This movie is going to include some racial comeuppance. In the original show, Green Hornet tended to let Kato do all the heavy lifting and physical heroics. Casting a lazy-looking white man suggests to me they're gonna play that angle up for laughs, which could be effin' hi-larious.
Now who they're casting for Kato? There's lots of physically impressive young asian cats out there who could pull it off. He doesn't have to be a cheap Bruce Lee knockoff. Kato was supposed to be Japanese, right? Maybe an actual japanese actor with some aikido, judo, and karate skills could do the trick. I really favor going with an unknown for the part.
Knowing Hollywood, though, they'll probably try to get Jet Li. Sigh.

The best thing about this post is the headline. Kudos, JSL!

Um.

I care much more about who's Kato.

First choice for Kato is Kato Kaelin, second choice would be Ziyi Zhang (she kicks serious ass), third choice is Jet Li.

Kato = B. D. Wong

I think Paul Rudd would make a brilliant Kato. Their chemistry together makes me laugh bones hurt.

It won't be Jet Li. But Ziyi Zhang sounds like an awesome idea.

Who played Kato in the TV series? Wasn't it Bruce Lee? Or did my brother tell me that for no reason.

It was Bruce, indeed.
