Re: Post Office Shooting

posted by on July 25 at 19:16 PM

Indeed, there was a shooting in the parking lot of the post office on 23rd and Union. According to one post office employee, one shot was fired at about 4:20pm. A man sitting in his vehicle was struck in the shoulder. Another witness said the man drove himself to the hospital.

More details if they become available.

Seriously - I've lost count of how many shootings have happened within a 3 block radius of this place. What is going on with these people????

You would be keen to shoot someone too if you had to wait in line at that post office. Half the time only one person is working the counter. The line will become ridiculously long and no one comes out to relieve the mail clerk.

What do you mean, these people? That's pretty loaded.

Don't play dumb.

by these people, he means "white people who have gentrified the once charming neighborhood."

that, or "crazy ass black people who didn't have a home to sell to get out of the CD"

Damn, I always knew that "Post Office Lounge Nightclub" was going to be a source for trouble someday!

I'm just glad this happened BEFORE I dropped off my office mail there at 5:30 yesterday.

@2, I hear you. This is about the fourth or fifth incident in that vicinity in the past four months. Makes me wonder if the recent business closures (CC's Burgers, the pharmacy on the corner) are the result of some of this.

As for "those people", anyone who lives in the neighborhood (as I do) can tell you there are fairly large numbers of young people who hang out at that intersection, mostly in the parking lot between the Liquor Store and the Post Office, and the building across E. Union only recently replaced the broken windows that had been shot out a couple of months ago.

It's too bad, because it's otherwise a nice area what with places like Central Cinema, 2010 Bikes, Cappy's Boxing Gym, Adey Abbeba restaurant, Kathy's Coffee, and the Chinese apothecary just up the street. But at the same time SPD has had to park one of their mobile precinct vans there on numerouos occasions, just to maintain some semblance of law-and-order.

We need to shut down all post offices and put postal carriers in GITMO.

RE: "These people".
Folks, all I meant was the people who are walking around pointing guns during broad daylight. No idea about the race involved in the recent shootings, all I know is I don't like it ok?
