Poor Guy

posted by on July 18 at 12:44 PM

He’d had a pregnant-looking belly his whole life—36 years—and, it turned out, he had his half-formed twin in there. (From ABC News and thanks to tipper Billy.)

that's such a mix of heartbreaking and terrifying. almost like a real-life version of some particularly morbid southern magical realism.

It's like they say, inside every fat person is a thin one trying to get out.

He must have lived in a very rural area...anyone can tell from looking at that tummy that it wasn't just fat.

They say in the article that the unborn twin fed on his host's blood supply and had very long fingernails, does that mean that it was alive? Was it a living organism that was brain dead, was there a brain at all? I have so many questions that the article doesn't answer.

Amazing! If you read the article the twin "parasite" lived for a long time inside his stomach by connecting to his blood supply. They removed the fetus (I think in pieces) with "fingernails that were quite long."

I'm with Carollani. There are so many un-answered questions!! If they had removed him properly, could he have survived?

a girl i work with had a "growth" removed about a month ago -- it weighed around five pounds, was the size of a melon, and upon extraction they learned that it had hair. her unformed twin, or her psychic baby brother on the move a la dr. bloodmoney? that has been the topic of many a lunch hour debate.

Wait - the inside twin is ALIVE?

"Sometimes, however, as in Bhagat's case, the host twin survives and is delivered."

What happened to it?

Wow, that is amazing. I kinda want to see a picture of the thing, but ugh! That is so X-Files freaky!

So many unanswered questions: Did it have a heartbeat? Did it have a brain? Did it have a face? Or was it just a mass of limbs, jaws, genilalia (male or female??), and hair? What did the doctors DO with it? How could this have happened in 1999 and we only heard about it now?

I believe Grey's Anatomy did an episode about this...albeit with a cute white guy.

They don't really answer all the questions you might have, but here's a video that shows the thing that came out of the guy. It didn't have a head, so no brain.

Not her twin, just a tumor with differentiated cells. Tumors with hair aren't too unusual. Likewise nails. Especially in cosmetologists exposed to chemicals.

parasite is right. that guy looked much heartier in the interview some months afterward. "2lbs of hair...44 lbs of fluid" and a flayed chicken with nails. gawd.
