Erik Estrada signs autographs on a trash can. The wait was at least an hour.

i wish people would wait for autographs from people like Milton Friedman or at the very least Robert Merton.

I would SO stand in line to get an autograph from Frank Zappa. But only if Gustav Mahler brought me to the game.

Can someone explain to me why a celebrity autograph is worth anything, given its non-rarity and how impersonal and inconsequential the interaction is?

My favorite CHiPs episode is the one where the truck towing the tar wagon is going down the freeway. Suddenly, the tar wagon bursts into flames. Then, the driver panics causing a 20 car collision. The last car to crash into the mess somehow gets airborne and jumps over all of the cars, landing on its roof.

Oh wait a minute. That happened in EVERY CHiPs episode.

was ponch named after the little spare tire fat role on someone's stomach, or was the fat named after him?

I was lucky enough to hang out with Estrada a couple years ago. We had some beers and played pinball. He is the nicest fucking celebrity I've ever met, and was totally sincere and genuine.

As a child, I had a Bigwheel bike that was fashioned after a CHiPs motorcycle. I'd ride it around and my dad would call me Ponch. Mr. Estrada was nice enough to pause for this photograph, which I had framed and gave to my dad for Xmas. He liked it, and it was a father/son type thing in it's sappiness.
