Today is the first day of Washington’s new domestic partnership law, and the Prayer Warrior will be taking to the air to discuss his feelings on the subject.

Dear Prayer Warrior,

Pray for me at 10:30 this morning, as I’m on AM570 with John Carlson and Ken Schramm regarding domestic partnership.

At 1:00 I have a very important conference call, and will need serious prayer for wisdom from God to explain a strategy that I will start when I return from vacation.

Your Pastor,
Hutch

Feh. I'm wondering why he's bothering to agitate against such a weak, weak law. I'm not even sure it's worth the fifty bucks to sign up. I've already spent five hundred on wills and powers of attorney that give me all these rights.

So when are the gay call boys going to start spilling it on Hutch? Get a move on!

Gitai @ 2,

I know the Domestic Partnership Law seems pretty lame, like New Improved 21st Century Segregation! But the legal documents that we prepare, like medical powers of attorney, are only helpful if we’re able to produce them, which may not be likely in the event of such an emergency. A domestic partnership registration with the state should be easy for a hospital to verify, for example.

The new law gives us benefits like the right to sue for wrongful death that are huge and can’t be replicated by attorney prepared docs. Also, the goal of the legislature, similar to what they did in California, is to continually add to the law each year so that eventually the rights are the same as those of marriage.

It does seem idiotic that we’re going down the failed “separate but equal” road when our neighbors in Canada have had marriage equality for years, but this is the state of our country today so we just have keep working with our legislators for marriage in the future.

Pray for Ken, lest he declare his intent to enter into domestic partnership with John Carlson right over the radio!

@4 Ask all the people in New Jersey how well even full civil unions have worked, even when verified. I doubt this piss poor substitute is going to have any fewer complaints or better success.
