MY God is the ONLY God

posted by on July 12 at 13:35 PM

The Senate dared to open with a Hindu prayer today, and some looney fundies decided they needed to disrupt it—because, you know, their God is the only true God.

CNN has the video.

And we wonder why the entire planet hates us...

Damn, I hope this kind of crazy shit happens when I'm sitting up in the gallery next week!

Otherwise, I'll just be watching them make sausage, which, you know, is really pretty boring...

Wait, were the loonies in the gallery or on the Senate floor? Who can tell these days...

Yeah, that needs to be made clear, because I thought it was senators being zany, and that would have made for a much more compelling story. If it was just audience members, who cares? You could get that anywhere in the world.

How about we just not have prayer in the Senate? What is this, Iran?

I just love this!!! I think the Senators should fight to the death for their God, then issue excommunications which Bush will happily sign! Bring on the Inquisition!!!!

No. Your god is a figment of your imagination. So what we have here is one religionist sect that doesn't like another religionist sect having the US government participating in that sect's practices. Sounds like the perfect argument to stop having the Senate be opened with a prayer fr5om any religious sect.

Given how many have served in our armed forces, I continually wonder why we never get Druidic, Wiccan, and Atheist prayers.

Just saying.

Atheist prayers, Will?

Dear God,

Fuck you, man. You don't exist. STOP CALLING ME.

Amen.

Ah, The Fucking Bigots of the SLOG anti-god crew raise their heads and declare for all to see thier smug and self declared enlightenment.

However, reading a Hitchens book does not make you on the same level as Aquinas.

ecce homo, what god do you believe in that accepts homosexuality?

Posted by Bellevue Ave | July 12, 2007 3:39 PM

Ecce, it means that I've read more Hitchens than Aquinas ever did! (joke, of course).

Open the prayer to every denomination or do away with it. Preferably the latter. Why does religion have to be a public matter? Politicians shouldn't have to wear their religions on their sleeves.

Aquinas can polish my knob. His intellectual achievements are tarnished by the times he lets the dementing effects of patriarchy shine through.

"As regards the individual nature, woman is defective and misbegotten, for the active power of the male seed tends to the production of a perfect likeness in the masculine sex; while the production of a woman comes from defect in the active power."

Speaking out against bad ideas and untrue assertions about the Universe is not bigotry, Ecce, unless you elevate religious myths to something akin to race.

Really, for the way the Bible and Qur'an and so on treat them, women and gays should reject every Judaeo-Christian religion and derivation wholesale. One lesson I have learned in life is that the one of the greatest emotional harms one can do to one's self is respecting or loving or trying to "understand" someone who shows nothing but scorn for you.
Mind you, I'm an agnostic, not an atheist, but christians are actively campaigning to fuck up everything I hold dear, so forgive me if I shit on your fucked-up mythologies.

I'll repeat my mantra once again: ALL religion is organized ignorance.

But hey, at least these peoples' actions, while ignorant and disruptive, were not along the lines of bombing a bus or stoning a woman to death.

@10 - yes, atheist prayers.

My grandma, who was a registered Republican with a signed picture of Bush 41 and his wife in her house, was an atheist.

She deserves the same right to a state religion as anyone else.

Even if she's dead now.

Religion is the root of all evil. My penis is very hard right now. I should stroke it. American thumb-tacs are cool. I wonder if it will hurt if I place one in my urethra. Hmmm...thoughts.

Regardless of how you feel about religion in general, you should be outraged by these assholes who want to establish their version of Christianity as a state religion. The fact that our Senate invites people of different faiths is a testament to the commitment to push back against those people. Could you put your dogmas aside for a moment to actually look at the big picture?

Gitai- I never said I hated the Hindu religionist doing the opening prayer. That's Tiffany's bag. I was just jumping on an opportunity to hate on Christians. It's all love, baby.

I never said I hated any Hindu or Christian. I am just against supernatural magical explanations of the Universe, and I am against the government taking part in their conjuring sessions.
