There is a lot of polling indicating that if Bush DOES pardon Libby he will pick up some points from his base. When you are below 30 percent one gets desperate.....
Anyone who still appreoves of the job Bush is doing either (1) is not paying attention and won't notice, or (2) is a one-issue constituent and doesn't care what Bush does other than on that one issue.
I have to believe all Bush plans to do in his remaining term is perform poltical favors for Republican donors. The only ones who are ever going to talk about a legacy (other than in a 'worst President ever' sense) are those donors anyway. Nonetheless, they'll try some sneaky timing right before the Labor Day weekend when no one is noticing just to keep up the appearance of giving a who what the American public thinks.
I think it's pretty clear that he's lost the American public and is not going to get them back. Second, this administration has never been about governing, and has always put the party first at any cost. After all that we've been through, do you really think they'll do what a real administration would do? He wanted to appoint Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court and will not remove Gonsalves?

I don't know why this reminds me of "Office Space."
"Y'know, minimum-security prison is no picnic. I have a client in there right now. He says the trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become someone's bitch. Then everything will be all right... Why do you ask, anyway?"
Here's to Scooter being someone's bitch (though he should be use to being a bitch working under Cheney.)
Bush should commute Libby's sentence, but not pardon him. That way he'll have to pay the fine but stay out of jail.
Libby is only guilty of perjury about something he really didn't need to lie about because it was Richard Armitage who leaked Ms. Plame’s “covert” status and the special prosecutor knew that all along. Making a long sorted trail over nothing.

Psh, he'll be fine.
Yeah, he will be fine Mr Poe, Bush will pardon him in the next few weeks. Then Libby will have a show on Fox News.
I think outcry would be too much for his polling numbers right now. I bet the pardon will come in 2009.

Bush doesn't give an S about what anyone thinks. As soon as the BOP sets a date, W will issue the pardon.
There is no way he'll let Libby spend one minute in jail.
Isn't it time to repeal the pardon powers?

@ elswinger: I guess it would be too much to hope that he goes to a "pound me in the ass" prison.
Thumbs up Mike! (Not literally.)
