I don't see anything wrong with this, they are a theatre not a daycare. Kids under 17 should not be out unsupervised after 10PM. I remember when I was under 17 and I was always up to no good when I was out that late on my own.

Banning teenagers from doing certain nighttime things (driving, going to the movies, etc.) guarantees that they will act like complete idiots by the time they turn 21 and are let loose at the clubs. These 21-year-olds have been cooped up for five years doing nothing and then start to make up for lost time.

We should be giving teenagers more freedom, not less. Sheltering them does nothing.

That said, I'm horrified by what happened to that poor girl.

But where will they annoy the shit out of everybody?! The theater is the best spot. All they have to do is throw their skittles into the audience and anonymously hit people. Talk loud, laugh loud (not at the film, at the conversation), let their cell phones go off, storm down the aisles, just HAVE A GOOD TIME!!! It's a theater. What are these bitches trying to do anyway? Watch the movie?!

Oh yeah. Fuck teens.

Um, I would be curious as to how many teenagers the poster at #8 has.

It is kind of part of the whole 'parenting responsibility 101' that parents help facilitate fun and interesting activities for their older kids. Just because your kid hits 13 and you don't need to hire babysitters to go out doesn't mean the parent's job is over. It is just different and in some ways easier and in others harder.
This rule isn't banning kids from the movies all together, it is banning unsupervised kids. I do have a teenager, and I don't let her run wild. I feel parents that do are irresponsible and doing their children a great disservice.

I hate sitting behind obnoxious little brats as much as anyone, but I'm still disturbed by the trend this represents. Raising kids is about training them how to be responsible adults; simply denying them autonomy and access to the adult world until they turn eighteen seems like a profoundly bad strategy.

@15 - I don't know how you were raised, but I didn't have my parents around me all the time when I was 16. Think of the kids with ultra-strict parents who OD on freedom (and booze, and other substances) upon going to college and suddenly not having them there telling them what to do anymore. That's what happens to kids who never learn to live without parental supervision.

Just because you are a parent supervising a group of teens at a late movie doesn't mean you are going to go and hold their hands. But if it is after a certain hour, it is probably a good idea that at least one parent hangs in the background, maybe sits in the back of the theatre and keeps an eye on things. You would be amazed at how different teens will act when they know they have a parent in the room. Teens have plenty of opportunity in their day to day lives to practice being young adults, and learn responsibility. They can join a sports team, get a PT job, get involved with community clubs or groups. They do NOT need to be running around at all hours, on their own to learn how to be a grown up.

Damn, before you get a car the movies is the only good place to make out in.

That said, I agree with no. 8....17 is almost a legal adult; and the superstrict parents I knew had kids who flipped out the moment they got to college. If they stop being allowed to go anywhere, they will be hanging out on street corners.
