Which means he'll be pardoned in January 09.

duh. libby's pardon will come with the rest of them as a very quiet, last-minute thing in the waning hours of his presidency.

I don't mind this decision, we all know it was not Libby who was at fault he was only covering for the real crime - sure it was obstruction but that was not the point of the trial. until we can actually go after the top administration behind this getting the sideliner's is just useless.

It’s funny the liberal outrage at the commuting of Libby’s sentence. God bless Aipac and “impeachment is off the table” Nanci Pelosi. That Bush and Co remain in power after the list of crimes against the constitution, the environment, the Iraqis, etc, is a testament to the shit worthlessness of the Democrats. You cunts, you idiots, you keep writing about Oboma and Clinton and how much money they raised, and their promises about the brightness of our future, but realize it is for naught.

@5, the reason thae obstruction and perjury are crimes is because they stand in the way of a trial on the real crime. As opposed to the Clinton impeachment, Libby was blocking the trial of the VP and/or President for a serious crime. He was sent to jail and now the parties that he was preventing from being investigated have commuted his sentence.

It's just as written in the quote Andrew posted. This is very serious, and I wish the media would stop talking about whether Bush did enough. Commuting his sentence was a travesty of justice. The issue isn't whether a few right wing nutjobs who've never believed that the law applies to them think it should have been a full pardon.

The issue is that what Bush has done (without even consulting the DOJ) is akin to the firing of Archibauld Cox, which started the events that ended in Nixon resigning. Nixon fired Cox to stop him from investigating Nixon and that couldn't happen in a democracy. The Pres and VP continue to conduct themselves as though the law doesn't apply to them, which is just unacceptable. Congress will start hearing and require Libby to testify. The issue isn't whether it should have been a full pardon. The issue is what action will Congress and Fitzgerald take next.

Can we at least get him disbarred before his pardon comes through?

@10

First,the Pres pardoning someone who is helping him cover up a crime by him or Cheney is certainly in a different realm. This is more like Ford pardoning Nixon, but much more nefarious.

I don't agree with the Clinton pardons, but the only thing he could have done that would be remotely similar to the Libby commutation is pardoning himself, which in effect is what Bush has done here. Bush or Cheney have broken the law, set up Libby to impede the investigation probably promising him that he'd never have to face the consequences and now they're keeping him out of jail until they pardon him leaving office.

Second, Bush will be pardoning every donor he can heading out the door so there is no comparing yet. Political favors and not facing consequences have pretty much been the MO of this administration and they've always managed to exceed negative expectations. It'll be a travesty, and all we'll hear is 'Mark Rich, Mark Rich, Mark Rich'. Not to worry, they'll be hundreds of Mark Richs.
