Does this mean that Macys will have to sign a "Good Neighbor Agreement"?

According to the Seattle Times, "The victim was shot in the leg."

So are we officially up to a 500% increase in gun violence in Seattle since last year yet, or was I just not paying attention to all this gangsta horseshit in '06?

So now in addition to tolerating the creeps and the smokers and the anticipation of climbing aboard one of Metro's luxury wagons at one of Seattle gamiest bus stops, we now have to be on guard about bullets. Swell.

I wonder if the department stores in downtown will now be subjected to the same scrutiny the local night clubs are undergoing. Wake up people its the fucking wide spread disparity between the rich and poor in this time. Lock your doors cause I imagine it'll get a whole lot worse!

maybe you guys are working on it, but could someone start writing about the number of shootings in the last two or three weeks. it seems it's happening all over town for all kinds of reasons - a taxi driver, a bar patron, west seattle, the cd, the cd post office, rainier valley, the cemetery, downtown, pioneer square.
wtf is going on?
what's spd doing?

Is there some kind of all-out gang war going on in Seattle right now? WTF?

RE: 12 -

Maybe they were able to get a couple blocks away from the time they fired to where they were apprehended.

Video showing chaos of the shooting aftermath here. Lots of angry people on the street, with a huge crowd forming about 15 minutes after police and fire were on scene. This is one block from where a man was killed with a rifle earlier this month, and in almost the same location where a woman was shoved under a bus last year. Just two blocks up from where the mental patient lit a woman's hair on fire earlier this year. Pike & Pine between the Market and Fourth Ave. are an absolute zoo!!!

Jesus H fucking Christ! Why do we all have to suffer under this Gun Terrorism? Oh yeah, we are all bowling for Columbine! Out of my cold, dead hands!

Forget Macy's. McDonald's was involved. Given that fast food is bad for health, gives rise to loitering, and now is obviously a locus of gun violence, why not license fast food joints and shut them down if they can't curb their loitering problems (e.g. Broadway JackInTheBox, Dicks, McDonalds).

All parody aside for a minute, loitering is (IMO) one of the biggest drivers of the street violence in downtown. Everyday of the week, there are throngs of idle youths who seem to be stewing for a good fight. It's usually more fists than guns.

But don't let anyone fool you into thinking this is just street kids and gang bangers getting hurt. Last year the manager at the Walgreens on Third & Pike was yanked out of his store and beaten on the sidewalk for calling the cops about a previous altercation.

That part of Downtown is a scuzzy shitty area and has been for years, with a lot of loitering street thugs, bums, drug dealers, etc. Only now that there's shootings going on there is anyone paying attention. People like me have been saying this area is dangerous shit for years, and only now are people giving a crap.

seriously though, I am totally and utterly not surprised that this happened at that location. hoodrat highschool is always in session at 3rd and pine. I bet that most the people that attend hoodrat high dont even live within 2 miles of downtown.

Seriously, walk down to the bus shelter on 4th and Pike. You will likely be offered at least one dimebag of crack, if not several.

That 4 sq block area is just a giant black hole of trouble and no one cares.

Fourth Avenue and Pike Street is out of control, and should be torn down. SBC, Rite Aid, the Century Square building--none have them have done a thing to abate drug activity outside of their premises, and should be held accountable for their nonfeasance.

Good riddance to all of them, I say...

There are a number of good theories in this thread on what is causing the string of recent incidents in downtown. Maybe some slog editor wants to request stats from SPD, and perhaps make a public records request for police reports of assaults, drug arrests, etc. since Jan. 1, 2007 (could narrow it to the precinct in question)...

For my part, I'll keep soliciting videos, and capturing these events when I can. Anyone with a camera-phone (should be most everybody now) be aware of these kind of incidents, and react by capture this stuff on tape.

West Precinct is in charge of the downtown area.

What are you guys so upset about? I hear that at this very moment, someone in City Hall is contemplating holding a meeting to discuss the possibility that at some future date they may think about holding a different meeting to discuss the possibility of shutting down a hip-hop night at a certain Belltown nightclub at some point in time that is yet to be determined, as long as the NAACP promises not to send out a press release objecting to this potential discussion of the possibility of this potential prior discussion. This is fascism! It needs to be stood up to! Geez, get yer prioriteez str8 ppl.

26. Yes, 2 blocks by 2 blocks, which equals 4 sq blocks, because I'm thinking of Pike/Pine between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

As I usually say about this stuff, the only way to effectively nip it in the bud is legalizing drugs and outlawing guns, but since that will never happen in the US, it's about law enforcement. What are we going to do about it? More cops (of course with proper oversight). And maybe make the job a little more well-compensated to reduce the temptation these guys must have to let the psychos deal drugs (instead writing tickets to jaywalkers) just to avoid that shooting statistic being themselves.

i love how the reply to any attack on the nerves and masculinity of another man is "you're some kind of frat boy, arent ya?"

how many people that throw that out there actually have been personally wronged or hurt by a frat boy?

@38 a frat boy and his shirtless gang once tried to shoot me and several others when the divorce and u.s.e played a frat party at the uw and i was defending my musician friends. it is topical to this thread being that guns were involved. no guns=no gun violence. simple as that.

what frat was this fratboy in?

im sorry, but if we are going to label people frat boys, id like to know which ones they are in.

frat boy as a pejorative is useless because so many "frat boys" are in fact just meatheads not in the greek system.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | July 31, 2007 12:48 PM

And plenty of frat boys are in fact meatheads who are in the greek sytem. The term as a perjorative didn't rise from nowhere.
