Yesterday I Slogged about the woman in a bikini I saw shopping at the Safeway at Madison and 23rd. Today my inbox was brightened by a press release about "Safeway's new, state-of-the-art digital mammography van": Safeway has partnered with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) to bring modern digital mammography to women in convenient locations. Places like Safeway grocery stores and office locations across Western Washington. They are accomplishing this through the creation of a mobile mammography van that will drive from location to location. In other words, if women won’t come to mammography, mammography will come to them. The...

Am I the only one imagining people driving around in a van with some fake equipment, parking outside of Safeways, and taking pictures of ladies' boobs?

Is there a substantial percentage of women who won't go to a doctor for a mammogram, but don't mind stepping into a van outside a Safeway for one?

I don't know when I became my father, but if that Lover's Package girl with the cowboy hat were shopping in a bikini in a Safeway in Federal Way, I'd be driving an hour to go get groceries.

The are no beaches here, we're dying for a little skin. Jesus, you ladies wear Columbia jackets 250+ days of the year.

Super interesting. Mammo's are okay, and it is really important that women stay on top of this stuff. unfortunately mammo's can sometimes miss important signs of cancer. Considering that the SCCA's own head of radiology, Dr. Connie Lehman, published a ground breaking paper earlier this spring that designated breast MRI's as the most effective way to discover breast cancer, i am curious that SCCA is fronting this project. Right now breast MRI's as a routine exam are uninsured (meaning wealthy women with extra K's can afford to have them, but most of us can't), Dr. Lehman's paper is expected to make the MRI's the new standard of care, which will force the insurance ageny to cover them for most insured women. Anyways, my guess is is that Mammo's are better than nothing, do catch a lot of stuff, and much cheaper, so mostly, props to the SCCA. Although, ew, safeway?
