I left King 5 this afternoon wondering if it would be possible to have a meeting with Jean Enerson and other King 5 executives so we could discuss this and other issues? My hope is that it would be possible to build a more positive relationship between pedestrians in Seattle and the sidewalk out in front of King 5.... It was built after a lunatic crashed a Porsche (I believe it was) at high speed through the plate-glass windows, just after a bunch of kids (Cub Scouts, perhaps) had left the area. I think, thank God, that only one employee was injured. So the sculpture is there to keep cars out. And it could've been worse: his original sketch for the piece depicted a typical American couple having sex while watching TV. I saw the sketch.

Tim @1 has the design part right. More on the story... a small inside story... that ugly ass thing was part of a laundry list of things which could never be changed when the Bullitt's family sold the station some 15 odd years ago.


You hate it, I hate it, the staff at KING/NWCN hate it, and you better believe the Texas-based corporate overlords of Belo hate it. But, it can't be move... not without some serious legal hating going on.


On another note, rumor also has it, I believe it is actually Dorthy herself, is entombed inside of an old bank vault (the bank vault is part of an older building pre-dating KING and Television in general) inside of the building. All I know is, the vault is real and anyone who might be in the know, won't open the vault or talk about why the vault won't be opened.

Good enough for me to make the rumor real.

It might have stopped the car from hitting the building, but that would have prevented the the overall accident, and it wouldn't have occurred to anyone to build the statue in the first place...I don't know how to figure this out - if anyone can please post - but @4, I think being a time traveling statue warrants some respect.
