What is this, Freaky Thursday? The layout is all screwed up.
So, is she supposed to be James Gandolfini's character, or his wife?
The Slog is totally fucked in Firefox. Way to go Feit. Heh.
she is totally an uncharismatic toad, wooden as a boat bottom, and he's a saggy old can't-act. i don't trust that woman one bit, and how did HE age so damn much so damn fast? is she slipping powdered lead into his rice crispies? do they live on a uclear waste dump?
Josh broke the Slog!
@5 etc...
Fixed. I think.
Sopranos to Josh
Singers in a higher pitch
in Tommy debut
#2: She's supposed to be Tony Soprano. She's the one flipping through the songs on the jukebox, just like Tony.
I thought the piece was really smart and entertaining. Sure she's no actor, thank god. We've already had one actor-for-president; don't need another.
Whew! I was forced to open IE for ten minutes of slog-reading, thank god it's fixed.
....y name is Carollani, and I'm an addict.
Johnny Sack Lives!!! I love it! Hillary, not so much...
I thought the big, glaring guy should have been played by Obama.
I guess I'm the only one who finds the role swaps amusing.
Wow. Thanks, Josh. I was just as confused. "What's with the big Clinton-Hater stare-down? That's random" I thought to myself. Glad to know I'm not the only one who was at a loss as to why this was so popular.
Tune in next week for another exciting episode of "When Pop Culture Bites Back"
You cant pretend you didnt see that episode. The only people that didnt see that episode are aging hipsters, and my dead grandmother.
Thats Johny Sacks ferchrisakes!! HRC is going to sweep in Jersey. If only she had the nasal accent like Carmela. Like I said in an earlier thread, this was genious by our lame future president. Hillary/Richardson you heard it here first.
#15 and those of us without HBO
This is class war. I don't have HBO either. I've never seen a whole episode of The Sopranos.
ha. a quick survey reveals that its the middle class who lacks HBO. again the underclass spending on crap. damn.
anyway, you gents can watch the reruns on A and E. or you can watch it on YOUTUBE. or you can rent the whole series at the video store. the show is only topped by THE WIRE. best tv since ALl in the family.
Ali in the Family? To bad Carroll O'Connor has passed on, because I'd really like to see that. :(
Yeah, um. I totally don't know anything about the Sopranos. But sort of pretend I do. So, I already did that exercise, but for real. My thoughts went like this:
-There must be a lot of jump cuts to other people (who are happy and unaware)in the Sopranos. Y'know, to emphasize all that tension.
-There must be a woman who takes care of her man nutritionally, and the curmudgeony-but-loveable man resents her for it. Those Sopranos!
-Are there a lot of teenage-daughter-can't-park jokes in "The Sopranos?" Is that an Italian joke?
-Scowling, egg-shaped possibly mob-type man! He looks like he could be a Soprano. I wonder if he's supposed to be a certain one.
You don't need to have HBO to have known what was beeing spoofed, since they played the end of the Sopranos episode on lots of other channels the next day as a news story. But even having known what was going on, I thought the stare down was a reference to Hillary-haters. All-in-all, it's not a bad idea for an ad, but the execution is awkward, and I really wanted Chelsea to run in at the last second.
People! Have you never heard of NetFlix? I don't even have a TV, fer chrissakes, and I've seen all of the Sopranos up to this season.
Some of us snobs don't give a shit about the sopranos.
I love that Hillary was Tony. Way to Man Up.
Precisely. And "All in the Family" was total crap (except for the episode with Sammy Davis, Jr.). My netflix queue is stacked up a hundred deep with stuff I need to see more than the Sopranos, and then there are the trips to Scarecrow for the stuff Netflix doesn't know about (namely, most of the movies I want to see), and dodgy DVD-R web sites for the stuff Scarecrow doesn't have (most of most of the movies I want to see).
Not ALL intelligent people watch EXACTLY the same television series, people. I've never been a Sopranos watcher, and currently don't have HBO. That's not to say I don't watch other shows (Six Feet Under!) that everyone else loves. I have not seen the last episode, and all coverage I have read about it came from SLOG. Aside from it being set in a diner and ending with Journey, I don't know anything about it. I also probably wouldn't have known this ad was a Soprano's spoof if you hadn't told me (although it's hard to tell until I watch it with sound).
OMG Did Hillary get shot in the end there? Did Johnny Sack assassinate her?
The ending of the Sopranos will be parodied repeatedly for years now, so you guys better get used to seeing dinner scenes that end suddenly.
My favorite part of this ad is Bill looking at the carrot sticks and getting sad for the lack of onion rings.
Sorry, I don't do HBO.
But I did spend my teen years in a town where the majority of people were from Italy (Trail, BC).
That carrot bit was pure Clinton for those who haven't seen the actual Sopranos show.
In the Sopranos version, everyone is chowing down on onion rings. I was fully expecting onion rings, too, but laughed when I saw the carrots, considering Bill's heart issues. So that was a nice twist.
I'm not into the Sopranos, but watched the last episode.
("Sorry, I don't do HBO." That's nice, snob.)
